Just wondering if anyone out there is shimming their Go Foil Flip Tip tails ? I shimmed mine with the short fuse and a GL 180. Wow has it turbo charged my setup, but the waves have only been shoulder height. My question is, are people taking the shims out when it's over head ?

1deg makes a huge difference. But you're going to have to experiment yourself. I use a digital level to get the tail set and I like 2deg up on the gofoil flip tip and GL180 or NL190 with the short pedestal. 1deg rides better at high speed but pumps way worse for me, so maybe on a big day you could go with a little less shim - but I'd rather jump down to a smaller front wing instead.

Are you guys shimming more lift or less lift than standard.

With the top mounted pedestal I was shimming less lift for less drag.

Bottom mount (short ped), shim under front screw to angle stab front down. Gives way more lift which is great when it's tiny surf but I found the extra liveliness was hard to handle when waves got head high with the GL180, ( I've got the NL160 coming). The shim to me was like chipping a sports car, felt like I was turbo charging it. I took the shim out today in solid head high waves and the set up was feeling much more predictable. My thoughts are, with this setup when it's tiny surf I'll shim, but when waves hit head high I'll drop it out. I'll also experiment with a thinner shim that I could possible leave in for every session, flat to just over head.

I find the shim helps the NL range. I've run the 130 up to 24kts with the shim. No problems at all. Yea it's shimmed for more front foot pressure.
Never tried shimming with the GL's.

Also when it gets bigger the longer fuse does help stability. I'm sure you are well aware though!

The 180 is a lifty wing in head high surf - 160 will blow your mind.

yup everything needs to get dialed in...always takes me at least about 9 to 12 waves to figure out anything new

I've been kinda meh about stab fine tuning, being a cynical doubter about it making much difference. I guess I have to take it back / eat some crow. I borrowed buddies short pedestal smaller stab and he shimmed the front bolt to get more lift. HOLY CRAP, the NL 160 came alive. Immediately three 2 for 1s in a row on initial waves, and one where I pumped past 3rd wave after, longest pump yet. With some better technique and fitness, I feel like the pump monkey door might be unlocked or on verge. Stoked.

Though it did add a little challenge on bigger faster sections, harder to keep the foil in the water, some big high speed wipeouts
