Foiling or Finless????
How do you rate either?????
"Pay over $2000 for a foil" or "pay $1 for a fin key" and rip out ya fins and throw em in the trash?
Or "Hang out with Laird" or "hang out with Tom Wegener"?
Or "Chop your mates in half with your foil" or just "skim over your mates and give them a rub up" with your teflon coated dishpan sliding board?
Heres a vid of Keahi's silky smooth shredder style on a foil a few weeks back.
you'll see me in the background on this clip totally gobsmacked at how good he is already on a foil. watching him fly past me like i was surfing in slow motion, Totally killing it yewwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!
Looks lots of fun Mr Dogman . As for foiling mmm. Maybe a seperate section should be created on Seabreeze as personally I get a bit bored watching foil vids.
1 nil to Dogman for keeping the bank manager on side. 2 nil to Dogman in terms of the logistics.
1 nil to foiling in waves which even Dogman wouldn't be able to catch.
Both look pretty tricky for us average punters...maybe I need to try finless before I shelve out my hard earned $$'s on a foil setup? Given the rate at which foils are evolving, it it still too soon to join the party?
Dogman - I get you're riding your own signature board (which looks like a sweet stick) but is there a secret to what shape/volume board works best finless? I'm guessing a bit of length (for glide + tracking) / relatively stable (if you chucking it about) & refined rails (so that you can actually engage a rail) all help? Cheers
Best foiling vid I've seen makes it look easy. Finless looks like fun too.
Your right teatrea
He made it look way too easy
i just had my first crack at foiling
and holy crap it was fricken scarey sh1t, until it clicked for me

A Longer board to start with. Will make it easier to learn the art of just paddling in a direction that you want to go, and learn to counteract the the board turning while paddling way before it actually happens
ive only gone out finless less than 20 times atm
so im not sure on what will help with board design yet
but ive been looking at the way current shortboarders finless boards are contoured
PS - is this your longboarding cousin Dogman ![]()

Styling!!!!!!
Yeah after seeing you finless at the Alley much harder than it looks . Like Keahi on the foil you both make it look way too easy.
Both vids look great however I can't award a winner until I see both vids with the soundtracks switched.
I tried finless SUPing, and it definitely much harder than it looks. It didn't click for me. I have done a lot of finless windsurfing sessions however, it was fun to "skimboard" on waves going up the beach (with the old polyethylene bombproof boards) , but the sail helped a lot with balance.
I prefer foiling however, as it open up new conditions to have fun in. Foil sessions adds up to my days in the water, they do not replace SUP sessions. I was at 3 sessions per week on average, with foil I am at 4.3 (if conditions are not good, I work instead).
It seems any finless session could also be enjoyed with fins, it would eat up my SUPing time, not extend it.
One of the first foil vids I've watched to the end. Always enjoy your surfing too Dogman. Effortless control for both.
This one I award to the biggest mongrel out there, I appreciate how difficult both can be but for me surfing is about throwing some water around, hard bottom hand turns, the odd barrel etc. Now don't get me wrong I think Keahi is one of the most talented watermen out there and definitely the best I've seen to date on a foil.

Agree with micksmith. Doggie wins easily but Keahi's skills are to be appreciated.

And heres a vid of me trying to get wiggerdy wAck riding finless. Youll see keahi in the background, probably thinking "pffffft!!! I can do better than that DogBallsBreath"
Anyway all you nerdburger Breezoids "Give us ya rating......."
My flamesuit is on!!!!!!!!
Wow! You two guys are awesome. What a fun comparo.
I don't fully understand what you're talking about in most of your post tha Dogman but I think I get the gist of it.
On my score card I give you a 9.9 out of 10 for your skills and for somehow making a Heavy-metal soundtrack and SUP work together. Plus goes to show that sometimes less is more.
For Keahi I also give him 9.9 also because I want a foil and it's easily the best SUP surf foiling I've seen. Hands down. The soundtrack is clever too.
It's a tie!
Keahi surfs a foil better than most... and really does make it look fun and useful.
But finless Dogman ripping is total awesomeness, and for me, wins hands down!
Finless is totally rooted in surfing, while foil seems part aviation.
I am in awe of how well you carve your board finless.... so very cool Doggy! More please!
I would give that to the foiler, some nice smooth turns that look less spectacular as there is no spray but are really quite tight. Finless is skilful sure but looks more like trick surfing with the slides and spins.
