One of my closest friends on Maui.
There all up grading to longer and narrower Downwind SUP-foils.
This is a 7'10'' by 23.5 inches Litres ???
I was going to Maui this July/August 2022 BUT I have surf related injury I hurt my Bursa surfing Snapper Rocks I can still paddle and do Chin-Ups BUT the pain gets to intense when I'm holding my qb paddle in the surf when trying to SUP-foil. So I'm putting Maui off for 2022. Back in 2023 for another 10 year Tour of Maliko. Good mate Mark Raaphorst is looking after my 18ft Downwind SUP and my Surfboard for when Maalaea Breaks, it's like Kirra on Steroids.
In the mean time I'm off to Barra de la Cruz Mexico August/ September "it's been a Bucket List Dream the last 17 years" - "I'm finally getting to tick her off" on a Surfing sojourn, It's like Snapper Rocks on Steroids.

2015

Barra De La Cruz, Mexico
Maliko is bucket list for me. Though I don't aspire to downwind without a wing in my hand. Sorry about your injury. Maybe a FoilDrive would help, take a little paddle power off and get you into waves?
Barra de la cruz...been there a few times, varies pretty substantially depending on quality of sand bar. There was that epic "somewhere in mexico" contest years ago, but I don't think it's ever been that good since. My experience there has been "it's pretty good" but not super wow and, unfortunately, way too crowded with locals hogging the peak. May also be unknowns there with how the hurricane affected things.
Two recommendations:
1) Chacahua: isolated boat-access spot north of Puerto, with a tiny beach community. On the off days, it's a series of sections with longboard-ish waves that don't connect up, but is foil heaven (I was there when learning...now desperate to go back and get the real goods). On the best days the sections connect and it's a minute long ride with easy/gentle barrels (I filmed a guy get 6 little cover ups on one wave).
2) Salina Cruz: a few hours south, also a bucket list spot for me. There are sandy points right near town that are supposed to be good but get crowded (Punta Coyote I think). But north of there are 4x4 access middle of nowhere epic surf by yourself waves....costs you a guide to find them, but from what I hear, money very well spent.

G'day juandesooka my Bursa is good "OK" to paddle BUT is saying that I'd only be 80% fit for paddling AND if you're going to Maliko it's best to be 110% fit.
You're going to LOVE Maliko don't hesitate make it your NUMBER ONE Downwind Destination I've been to Hawaii 14 times already and 10 of those have just been hanging on Maui for Downwind Month the other 4 time was to surf the North Shore over winter when I was in my 20's
it's like this if your a surfer you go to Indonesian, if your a Downwind Paddler you go to Maui - The funny thing is Molokai has even better conditions "That Kamalo Buoy Run" is like Maliko on Steroids its insanely EPIC, I love the Place.
As for Barra de la Cruz "YEP" she sand bottom alright just Like Snapper Rocks and I've seen Snappers many moods IF I do get Skunked which I kind of doubt (fingers crosses) it's the best right in Mexico)

Kamalo Buoy Molokai

Here's very good friend of mine Ralf. Ralf owned Second Wind Sail Surf & Kite. 11 Hana Hwy #110, Kahului. in the early days.
Ralf's a retired waterman now "I leave my 18ft SIC Downwind Race Board under his house.
Ralf and Me have some many close Paddle Battles over the years we are the same age 60yo+ "luv it"
Ralf SUP foiling his 6'6'' x 26'' Maliko earlier this week:- Here's what Ralf had to say in his own words (3 years in the making) ---- Finally did it. After 90 attempts. A full Maliko 9.5 miles downwind sup foil dry run! 46 minutes start to finish no falls.

This is not DW foiling BUT has everyone seen all the surf footage getting around of Ma'alaea MAUI, Kai Lenny a SUP foiler Weapon is just Ripping out there. I leave a surfboard on Maui under Mark Raaphorst house just for this wave. I've surfed it at 3ft in 2008 but Ma'alea is too small at that size. in 2016 Ma'alaea had a similar Big Swell, I was spewing bulk, I had to miss that Swell hitting Ma'alaea, it was a good 8ft Ma'alaea on the Saturday that day as I had to be on Molokai for the M2O race the following day Sunday, I was spewing. There was some Big swells on M2O race day especially coming into Maunalua Bay there was some 8fter breaking on the reef biggest South swell in 15 years in 2016 - "2022 a little bigger" BUT I did get to surf Pumping 6ft Rice Bowles " Another Bucket List Dream, Ticket Off" in front of the Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Club with my best mate "brother from another mother" Blair Thorndike on a borrowed board, hungover as ****. I'm super Bummed I'm not on Maui this July to experience Ma'alaea on that swell. Me be there 2023
Ma'alaea vid 0.11
