Just the other day we saw Kane De Wilde attempt the flat water paddle up with no paddle. This morning vid emerges of Jeremy Riggs getting up on foil. No motor just skill and the right board/foil to get the job done. Riding Kalama Barracuda, Gofoil

Jeremy's talent had a lot to do with it as well. Mind blown; I find it hard with a paddle and Foil Drive assist LOL ![]()

This is a bench mark. Hopefully we see this become the every day normal in the future. Exciting times for the foil world.
This really just goes to show the biggest improvement people can make is work on Technique and i have always said to people wanting to learn to DW that timing and technique are the 2 biggest factors. All one has to do is match the board speed with the speed of the foil they want to get up on and then get the timing right with the way your paddle and body move so they don't work against each other.
Great to see the no-paddle get-up done and all I picked up from it more than anything else is how important good timing is. More people working on technique and timing and more people getting into DW cant really hurt so I'm all for it.

Kane did it as well. I think it is a 2500cm2 Gofoil.

Agree that developing the skill of timing and coordination will aid in improving technique.
You mentioned creating board speed to match the required speed for lift of foil. Would you agree that the longer, narrower board design enables you to create forward board speed at a quicker rate and more efficiently over a set distance than a 6'0 board? Do you think it's possible to do this style of get up on a 6'0 x 22 ish style board or would this design not allow for enough forward board speed without a paddle?
For a while now I've been wondering if that was possible with a sinker board shaped like a catamaran hull that could plunge into the water and come out easier, so the pumping action isn't limited by slapping on the surface. Sinker so you can get moving by moving the foil up and down, and so the volume above the deck front and back keeps you stable.

Not to be a stickler for the rules here. But I think the way Pohaku describes it best. Kane attempted it. Jeremy Rigg's got it off the water and did it. Dave Kalama said he tried all day with Jeremy and couldn't get it off the water himself. Like the 1 hour on foil in the surf challenge though. Once someone proves it's possible, I bet we'll see more craziness coming out of this.
To me (a complete supfoil kook) it looks like they are working the volume of the board against the water to generate some speed. would tweaking volume distribution on the board further assist with this type of takeoff? I realize only a couple people in the world have actually done this, but does anyone with board design experience have ideas here?

Not to be a knowitall but 2 points to note. Both Kalama and Kane are over 200LBS while Jeremy is 155LBS. Looking at Kane attempt I'm inclined to believe he would made it had he used the Barracuda.

No it was a Axis 1310

The link Frenchfoiler put he was on a GoFoil GT2600 and KT board. when he got it he was on a Kalama Barracuda and Axis 1310
The good news is these boards are going to make DW that much easier and within reach to a larger group of foilers.I wonder if there is any downsides to this design apart from standing further away from the mast on a thicker deck ?
Dave too: www.instagram.com/p/CilYGpzrIMq/?igshid=ZDU1ZDhlY2E=
Then Riggs:

KD made it too:

Agree
Any idea how thick the 'cuda is? Volume doesnt look too high?
Riggs and kalama both using front strap. Gonna give it another try with a maliko 280 and straps soon!

Dave had wind and a bump assistance. Still very impressive.

I'd be stoked to get up without paddling in 1m swell and 25 knots
.
I've got my flat water paddle up to about 5 or 6 strokes now, and as little as 3-4 in the ocean when I am on and well timed, removing the stroke all together sounds awesome to me, but probably a lot harder than it looks. Will break out the old big dog and see what happens.
Think it might only be possible on those new type narrow semi displacement type boards but maybe I'm wrong ?
Yes the board plays a big part but the new foils are just as important , plus the placement of boxes around 600mm forward
