Hi,
Dumb question but,"what is the longest board you can fit a foil to"?..
Wouldnt it easier to learn on a longer board and shorter mast foil?????
Does a wave need to be breaking or can you just ride swell.I know downwinders ride swell, just watched the Jacko run amazing.
Sorry for the dumb questions, but I can't seem to find any definitive answers.
Im keen on trying foiling, but to part with huge dollars,"the minister for war and finance "said either a wind wing or foil.
thanks to anyone who,ll reply

Hey JEG,
The reason I asked the question is because I have a ****ty evoke carbon 9'2" and reading some posts I read that you could buy stick on foil mounts.I started thinking ( I've still got the headache) maybe I could learn to foil on that.I,m just on 6' and top weight 100 kgs,a little less sometimes.Skill level been surfing for decades longboards short and back to mals.Took up Sup due to herniated lower disc, back would seize up trying to get to my feet.Im really just trying to figure out how to foil on a budget,if I start get better and like it then fork out the dollars for the good gear.Where I live there is a river mouth and swell comes through, travels maybe 500-700 meters before it even thinks about breaking.

Hey fitz i am 92kg and an older kind of paddler but a weekend 14 racer kind of guy. i say don't go longer than 7'6" or even 7'8". if you need stability or volume go wider. I have been working a few boards with "One" for me for downwinding here in the Gulf in SA and a little glide does help but any board longer than above just touches down too easy and makes foiling hard. Funny I see a lot of people go too short for downwinding too and not be able to learn so it's a balance for sure. Pure surfing is ok to go real short too (I have ridden a mates 5'10" sup in the surf and its fine). So keeping that in mind I'd say steer clear of the long boards.

And btw with a foil underneath you a board like the for example (SH Jimmy Lewis Hovercraft 7' 3" $850) on SB is a very stable board at 30 inches wide. There are SH boards on SB for as low as $300!

Hey thx Scotty
You Just explained something that I could never understand,it's the reverse of what We usually go thru.
when you learn to foil the shorter the board the better.Where as when you learn to sup you start on a longer board and go shorter.
Are the foil attachment plates universal???I mean if buy a Naish or Jimmy Lewis board, can you fit all the makes of foils.
I was just trying to be a tightarse,
I like the look of the ONE boards, bad luck you can't buy one and surf like Paul J.You need skill and fitness damn.
I'll look into Jimmy Lewis boards.
thanks for the help.
