I'm able to pump out and link the odd wave when my feet are just right. What is the general consensus for the placement of the back foot for a prone foil ? I've had foilers a lot better than me tell me different things. One said, the middle of the foot in line with the trailing edge of the mast, another said the front edge. I have noticed I seem to pump better when my FRONT foot is further forward. Has anyone got any tips that might help ?
Personally, I place my back foot anywhere between back of foot lined up with front of mast, to 2 or 3 inches forward of it. I end up more forward if the water is crappy and turbulent or I'm heading into wind, I purposely stay back and shift my foot further back if I'm connecting waves and turning when I hit them. The pumping action from that position doesn't "hinge" the board up and down, you do leg raises and the board comes up with your feet....from there you glide down and repeat. It is really important to have as little mast as possible in the water as it creates a lot of form drag.
the trimming of the foil is important too, it's better not to have it in a super lifty mast position (or adjustable stab position) as you tent to get a bit stuck at the top in a nose up condition and the stab is generating more trim drag than necessary.
