I Have tried 300,232,212 and 0,+1 shims and have a good understanding of differences/ benefits. I haven't tried a chopped 300 and wondering if it's just similar to a 232 and if anyone has had experience with it ,and could tell me the difference/ benefit of it. I like the feeling of the 212 on the ding but wondering if the chopped 300 might be better DW for glide and pump without losing speed ?

Yes, good post ^ I'm also interested in the differences & would like to add...anyone used the KD Maui tail with their Armstrong setup ?

chopped 300 feels nothing like the 232.

Chopped 300 has nearly the same stability and comfort as non chopped. Chopped just feels faster.

232 is still way more nervous than a chopped 300.

Thanks DWF , Do you think chopped 300 is a fast as 232 ? I like the idea of stability with speed and glide.

I tried the 0 shim on the 232 in waist to head high waves SUP foiling yesterday and felt like it really helped with initiating turns and feeling more stable all round. I use the +1 on the wing foil. Pumping with the 0 felt pretty good, but I'm still progressing and am very hit and miss at staying high on foil while pumping. I'd also love to hear more tuning tips for specific feel regarding these combos!

I have found the tails gives you the biggest difference ( smaller = faster and looser but less stable and less lift )
The shims are like speed/ lift fine tuning .0 gives more lift/ slower top speed. +1 gives less lift / higher top speed.
Then fuselage size. shorter = more sensative to pitch and turn inputs.
Adjust all until you get the feel you like the most for your weight/ board size/ sport.
As far as pumping goes I find the smallest tail (212) with the fast shim +1 gives me the least drag and therefore the best pump as long as I keep the speed up. I found the biggest tail (300) the easiest when I was learning to pump because it gave me the most easy lift and stability, but required more energy to cover the same distance ultimately because of the extra drag it creates.

He's got his tails between his legs atm cause he can't travel and foil any exotic new locations.

I like to try a big flat KD maui type tail for DW, pumpability and speed.I do like the speed and efficiency of the 212 but a bit more stability would be nice especially out on the ocean swells.
