But surely wouldn't these boards work if they had fin slots as well for SUP surfing?
I am no pro & won't judge that these boards should be for SUPing too.
I know certain chages are made in design to suit Foiling but once out of the water the board doesn't play much of a part. So why not have them as a crossover.
Or are those made as well for a choice. ![]()
I guess most of the SUP foil boards on the market can also be SUPed, and as you can also just put a foil on a regular SUP, maybe they just felt that the foil-only board market was the best for them to pursue.
Also, the foil box, straps inserts, and hull reinforcements add a lot of weight (up to 2kg / 4lbs). You will not like to SUP surf a short SUP with an added 2kg. Plus the handle and pads may not be in the proper place for SUPing without a foil.
HI Seajuice, see the video review from Robert Stehlik from Blue Planet regarding the Jimmy Lewis Sup Foil.... Sure you can add fin boxes (extra weight) to sup it as well or retro fit an old sup but Jimmy's boards & even Dave Kalama's are "Foil" specific with less rocker in the tail, diamond tails & fuller noses & rails for touching down & liftoff.... I have a mate who retro fitted his old Starboard & is out of the water for 6 weeks with broken ribs...He's now waiting for his JL Hover Board...

sorry but telling people that basically if you retro fit a board with a foil is going to have a accident your talking a load of rubish.
yes a specific board will be better (actual rocker is going back into the boards now after much experimenting) and when the board is in the water it is almost the hardest part about foiling so the board does make difference there but there is no reason why you cant start on a correctly converted board and enjoy foiling, the weight will be the last of your worries when you are learning if its a sensible size.
