Hey all, wonder if I could tap into the knowledge bank - the Breeze..

I'm coming to the sport from a Surf and Sup surf background. Loving learning but I have zero wind knowledge which was exposed in a complete failure yesterday lol.. I also have no foil experience.
So far around 15 sessions wing/sup/no foil
1 session behind boat
2 sessions foil/wing (1 complete failure)

My wing is 1st edition 5m Plus. The new plus is suppose to be conderably better with alot more power. I have had the wing repaired (tear and seperate puncture). As my summer conditions are 10 to 20 knots but alot around the 10 to 14 knots I feel I could do with a wing with a bit more grunt. I'm sticking with Gong as I like their gear and upgrade without selling my kids. I know when I am better I will know what I need and will have 3 or 4 wings. But for now I could keep the 5m and add or sell and add a wing;

Gong Plus is billed as beginner friendly no window, lightweight and considerably more powerful than 1st edition.

1)Get the new 5m plus (sell old 5m)
2) Buy new 7m plus (they havnt got 6m plus)

3) Buy 6m Superpower

Pulse is billed as experienced winger. Not sure if my 15 to 20 outings(only 2 with foil) make this a good option?
4) 5m pulse (sell 5m 1st edition) or 6m pulse or 7m plus.

I pretty comfortable with the wing it's just learning the foil. I'm 75kgs. 6'6 board, 2100 cm3 foil.

Basically easiest kit to get cruising in moderate wind conditions.

Any thoughts?

I had some Gong Wings but I changed them for the Takoon one. Really lighter and more simple. The gong wing were really nice too but I prefer the simplicity of the takoon. The price are quite the same.

I had both the Plus Ltd (4 and 5m) and bought the Pulses (4 and 5m, and 6m Superpower), and they are quite different animals. Like you I thought 'yeah, I could do with a bit more power' but it's more than just power. The Pulses are MUCH stiffer wings, which means they feel much more powerful, and the balance and feel in the hand is quite different. Basically, it's as they describe in the description on the Web.

The Plus handles nicely (apart from it 'rag dolls' more violently at the end of the leash due to the more pronounced dihedral shape) and had a massive range if you're not using a harness as long you pump it up enough (ie to the top of the recommended pressure, and a few more pumps for luck) . I've had the 4m out in 30 knots (survival but controlled) and I weigh 65kg. I had no issues using for three hour sessions.

I think you really need to use a harness to get the most of the Pulse. They just make more sense with one due to the extra power and how the power is delivered. You spend more energy controlling the Pulse so you need to take some pressure off the arms. Stability and wind range with the harness is great. I was OK on a 5m in 20-25 knots which would have been more of a struggle with the Plus Ltd without a harness, on a easier handling, less powerful wing.

Bottom line, buy with caution! The Pulses are great, but not a Plus with more power.

EDIT - I really enjoyed the Plus wings and initially thought I'd made a mistake with the Pulses, and would recommend them.

Thats great thanks for that. What about the Superpower that seems more sedate in the power delivery reading the descriptions?

The SP is smoother but I only use that in <15 knots average, when gusts are more gentle anyway. I don't tend to use a harness with the SP either as using one does make it a lot easier to over sheet, so keeping it in the hands keeps the subtle feel needed when it's light.

The lower aspect ratio of the SP also means that tip dragging is about the same as the 5m Pulse. Otherwise 'it does what is says on the tin'!
