I think I lost my previous post.
Just wondering who has experienced the difference in getting a light board up on the foil when wing dinging compared to a heavy board?
I went out on my local lake today in about 18 knot winds with lake swell capping.
I tried out my Neilpryde XL foil for first time. But used my 7ft x 31 wide foilboard which weighs about 5 or 7kgs heavier than my 6ft 8" JP foilboard because I probably used too much epoxy installing a track box.
I got close to getting up on the foil but just at that point it slowed down & went back down even when pumping the wing & board. But my pumping & timing still needs a heap of improvement.
I understand that weight is no good for swing weight but is it that much more difficult to get a heavier board up on foil?
The positives I got out of this session was I got it close onto the foil more so than using the Neilpryde L foil.
And I found that I could go upwind more at an angle when on my knees. But was too difficult standing up with the lake swell hitting me side on. But at least next time I go out I won't do the 1 kilometer paddle of shame upwind that took 45 minutes of hard labour before sailing back to my home point.
Anyway I'm planning on persevering for a few more session on my heavy board to get a better feel for wing & foil pumping including upwind sailing whilst standing.

I'm going to guess that the rocker on that board might contribute more than weight. Foil boards are almost dead flat. That Coreban is awesome for surfing but I'll bet it pushes water.

Yes it does push water & it is a slow paddler. But I love it to foil surf as the foil takes the nose rocker off the surface as it speeds up. The first time I tried it on the waves it felt like I hit the power band. It also feels great when foiling in offshore light winds. Plus recovers well when the nose hits the water.
I'm even thinking of getting one custom made in similar dimensions but lighter & a bit shorter. But just for foiling & surfing.

As for wing dinging that could be the number one problem. But I watch as it lifts a bit when it speeds up then as I lean back to load the foil it speeds up a little more & stops pushing water and that's when I start pumping to push it further but I start to feel I'm falling backwards & then only pump tentatively and at that stage it feels like I've lost the power of the wind and drop down again.

But anyway. I'm guessing the harder I try to get this barge up & running the easier it will be to get my lighter board to wing ding when I go to that as I want my light JP board to be my dedicated wingding board.

Seajuice, great to see you finally got the NP xl foil. That should enable you to foil easily in sub 20kts. I personally would recommend using your jp 6'8 in your next session.
