Hi,
Wondering if anyone who has tried the new Unit and also has experience with the WASP and the Swing could share their thoughts with how the Unit compares ? Especially interested in the power delivery - is it a grunter ( low end biased like the WASP ) or more top end biased / lighter in the hands like the Swing ?
Cheers
2nd gen wings have been better than older wings in most cases. I'm betting the Unit spanks these older wings. But I'd also bet Ozone and Fone release their new wings real soon....so there is that.
It's been great for us consumers as everyone's next generation incorporates what works and discards what doesn't work. Looks like the new Starboard Air Rush has taken the best features of what's out there. Would love someone's input if they've tried one. Otherwise waiting on Ozone's and Fones next Gen.

I've got an airrush 7m and I love it. I've tried it back to back with a WASP 6m and it was more grunty for me. Very light.
Sorry but can't help saying this - who would have expected a 7m to be more grunty than a 6m.![]()

Agree with this. A mate has a Unit and it is very like my new Smik. Really efficient with a tight canopy so you they have a really wide wind range. They are a good wing, even with the window only slightly heavier than the Smik 2.1kg to 2.3kg from memory. Nice touches like padding under the front handle to protect your knuckles.
Anyone know the wingspan of the unit 6m compared to the ozone wasp 6m...im a novice and found the ozone 6m quite a handful geometry wise in light winds at 5'9.
Ps
I'm surprised that wingspan is a dimension listed as a matter of spec from the manufacturer
I'm not sure what the hype is over the Smik wings, I tried out a mates 5m the other day and have literally no skin left on my knuckles (not an exaggeration, left the water with blood dripping off my fingers). Not sure if it's the webbing that's stitched into the strut that the handles are stitched onto, or if it's that combined with the handles being smaller than the other wings(haven't had any similar problems on my wasp)? Either way, I'll be steering clear of them for my next wing...
The wasp 6m is a monster. Too big. Smik 6m is much smaller and a great wing.
The 6 metre Wasp has the same wing span as the 4.2 F-One.

I find the opposite due to the Smik handles being quite stiff my hands do not move around much so do not scuff my knuckles as I did frequently with my wasps. The other issue with the Wasp is the soft handles sit squashed down rather than proud so I would have to push my fingers through close to the strut. Quite often resulting in the seam going under my fingernail which is not enjoyable. Horses for courses.
Anyone heard anything about the Wasp V2 yet?
It will be better than V1 ![]()

True... but many people on these threads think that the WASP 6m is the most powerful of all. Some think it's more powerful than some 7m. That not what I found. Anyway, each to their own...

I have no idea what you're on about. The handles on the Smik are some of the biggest on the market, super stiff. My knuckles never touch anything along the boom. I have not used the front handle off waves yet though. Not many brands have put padding off the front handle besides Duotone v2.

No issue here either and I'm a dedicate princess, the preformed handles are really easy to grab. Quite a different feel to the Wasp.

Glad you guys are enjoying them, and I hope anyone else who gets one does as well. Was purely passing on my experience (is that not what these forums are for?) which unfortunately wasn't a good one. Maybe I've got the hands of a giant lol

Good to get lots of different perspectives always worth trying before you buy if you can. My mates got hands like marshmallows, always struggles to keep the skin on his palms
First post bags out a really good wing. Great start champ ![]()

like I said, just posting my experience so others can see it.
and correct, first post. Thanks for such a warm welcome to the community champ
Hi guys.
Abt Unit; there is a gleiten.tv review on Unit 5m2 and it's in german. They say the 5m2 is good for waves but less so on freeriding, and most of all, it has pretty lousy low end compared to other 5m2 wings. Do you agree with this, please?

Can only talk about the 4. The 4 Unit gets going just as soon as the 4m wasp, if anything earlier. They are a good wing.
Got to play with a 4m Unit in the shop yesterday, nice and light in the hand even with the windows. Looks and felt great with a tight skin much like the Smick. The eva foam tubes they put on the handles feel super comfy.
