So, I have ordered Gong Veloce XL foil setup, which is 1600cm2, and it's a modest high aspect wing. I weigh 78kg and my biggest wing is 5m. And this would be my "light-medium" wind wave and freeride setup for winging.

However, I have not received any of the stuff as of yet, due to delays, and hence could change my order. After reading some comments about the Veloce XL wing (but I guess this is common feature of all higher aspect foils) is that they seem to need quite a lot of wind to perform and they have quite abrupt stall behavior. At the same time they are being said to have long glide ability which should help to keep the speed going, but still doesn't help when trying to get on foil?

And about the sizing, for example Fanatic and Naish have their high aspect line from three front wings, the middle being 1400-1500cm2 in size so this Veloce XL 1600cm is not small compared to them.

With 88L (+10L) board (very wide, 70cm), at what wind speeds a skilled wingfoiler could start with this kind of setup please?

Thanks very much!

I ride a 1400cm2 HA wing @ 105kg. If I get below 8 knots on the foil and/or I am pumping the board hard getting started, I can collapse the foil and board onto the water. This does not occur on the 2000cm2 low aspect foil I have. I simply learnt not to push the foil to hard at low speed.

But I see the 1400cm2 foil as mid/high wind device for me.

At 78Kg, a 1600cm2 HA foil will be big......really big.

2000 sq cm 200 lbs
1800 sq cm 180 lbs
1600 sq cm 160 lbs
1400 sq cm 140 lbs
1200 sq cm 120 lbs

you get the idea.....these are the sweet spot sizes for all around use. Not perfect, but pretty good rule of thumb.

Lots of good Gong Veloce info over on Standupzone in the foil and wingfoil sections. I have just got the Gong Veloce XXL and really rate it for wingdinging. It needs a fair breeze to get going but I weigh around 90kg in a full suit. It is fast with great control. No blow outs even at high speed. You can collapse it if you pump too hard but I'm sure that is part due to pump technique with HA wings. I am still exploring it's full potential and am keen to try it on the SUP in the surf. For light/medium winds my go to is the Gong Pro XXL. Not fast but amazing glide. Turns well for such a big wing. More lift than the Axis 1020.

Not sure, I'm 75kg and have a 2100 and 1550cm2 Moses wings. If there's holes in the wind or it's not consistently above 20 mph then I will stick on my 2100, it's fast and I need to be v well powered before it becomes too much foil. The 1550 is great if I know I'm going to be well powered or winds due to increase.

I'm learning wingdinging.

On my Maliko 280 at 2400 sq/cm dinging is so easy. If overpowered I just use a smaller wingding.

On my Mailiko 200 at 2000 sq/cm I struggle. I'm not sure how you all can learn on this size or smaller.
