Has any one had issues with oil burning on sd 20 sail drive legs after appling propspeed to them. Quicksilver Oil cam out very burnt and black deposit every where on oil drain and seal replacement after 30 to 40 hrs of use only differance was last sevice had propspeed applied to legs. normally oil comes out clean after 100 hrs use and trilux33 applied on the previous two seal changes. I am wondering if the silicon is isolating the legs from the water and not allowing heat transfer.

To help anyone with sail drive legs who has propspeed on them or considering use propspeed, before my last haulout i was starting to get a real lot of gear noise coming from my saildrives, I had applied propspeed on a previous haulout for the first time. At this last haulout when servicing the leg seals the oil drained out very burnt and smelly, there was no mechanical issues found with the legs. Doing some research the silicon has good insulation properties and retained the heat in the legs. I have changed back to trylux 33 and synthetic oil. Seatrial of the legs have found them to have been silent and no gear noise. It is my sugestion that if you have propspeed on your legs and use them a lot to check the condition of your oil.
