Hi all,
With the up and coming brisbane to gladstone race I have struggled to find a crewing position despite having completed sssc, etc and previously taken part in Geraldton to Fremantle races.

The fact I live in hervey bay and not being avaliable to crew everyweekend in brisbane doesn't make it any easier despite being prepared to travel most months to build repour.

I do race with the local club but nobody competes offshore.

I am looking at requesting further holidays around august to be avaliable for sydney-gold coast, brisbane- kepple, hamilton delivery.

Should I aim my efforts this year towards delivery post race with the hope to find a boat i can race on next year? Any other ideas that may improve my chances?

G'day Gyccrewman,
A SSSC is a great start. Deliveries are a good way to get yourself known to an owner and potentially onto a boat. I won't take anyone offshore now that hasn't sailed with me a few times as a minimum, but I am taking 2 relatively inexperienced crew to Gladstone that have done a few bay/passage races and safety training days on the boat, it's not just experience that decides whether I take on board new crew.
PM me your sailing experience/position mate. I'm full for Gladstone, and I have 6 for the delivery home, but there's always someone looking for crew to deliver home, I may be able to get you a ride back. .
Might be short notice though, as carefully laid plans seem to change right up to race start!
Keppel to Airlie is another delivery option that you'd have a good chance to snare a ride, or as you said Keppel to Bris for Those not pushing on to Airlie/Hammo.
cheers,
SB

Thanks both of you. I have joined sail connect and mysail websire/apps.

I have had a couple of people interested since late last year until i mention i live outside of brisbane. I definitely see the value in building repour prior to heading offshore and had made myself avaliable for the kingfisher series early this year in the hope to join a boat prior to sailing to gladstone and being avaliable for various offshore races.

Will PM you my details shaggy. Thanks for the offer to spread the news. I was being a bit ambitious this time and have only organised days off over the weekend but will look at taking a week off around august and focus more on delivery.
