Hi
Looking at a 2nd hand small yacht. The HIN ends in DK2. Just seeing if I can ID the year. Doesnt seem to line up with coding online.

As yachts originally did not need a registration number or a HIN
you will find that the date of registration or HIN
only relates to when it was done,
or it may apply if built after registration and HIN came into force.

I don't know the dates they came into force.

What nswsailor said, HIN only became mandatory for new boats in 2006 and for older boats you only have to get it when you are selling the boat.
So unless the boat was built after 2006 the HIN will only tell you when was the first time the yacht changed hands after 2006.

After a purchase in Qld there was no mention of it in 2013.
However one had to obtain it when same tub was re-registered in Nsw in the same year.

When I finished building my boat back in about 2000 I had to get it registered to get a mooring and I had to have a HIN to get it registered.

No sweat I thought, I'll just pop down to the local agent and fill out the paperwork.
I duly arrived and the friendly agent said he just needed to see the bill of sale for the boat and it could all get processed.
I said I don't have a bill of sale because I built the boat myself. I have a whole bunch of invoices for 'glass, epoxy and foam but that's the best I could do.
After much discussion between him and his colleagues they decided it was too hard and said it couldn't be processed without a bill of sale, goodbye!
Anyway, I found another agent who had at least half a brain and he said that's fine, some build photos and progress invoices and it was all good.

Don't you love a good bureaucracy in action

Thanks for making me laugh Jethrow. You've got to laugh.... before you breakdown and cry. Another fine example of people who secure positions (jobs) that require them to make decisions, but have neither the ability or guts to do so. Seen it too much in positions of management, where decisions can't be taken without holding meetings or consultants being used or getting someone else to make the decision for them. It reminds me why I like to go sailing and get away from them all.

Im a Registered Hin provider. The DK2 basically is the year it as installed and the DK is the particular provider who installed it.

The rego number will give a better idea. If you give me the first few numbers i can let you know, or if you ring me tomorrow or text me i can check exactly for you.
