Hello, crew, My name is Mike and I've just joined a boat in Hobart Hopefully going to do some offshore racing this season. I was hoping to find anyone has so pre-loved foul weather jackets or pants as the last few sails I have gotten quite wet been up the bow. I cant afford the gear new as I am a uni student here in Tassie. I'm 6 foot tall and have a 34 waist. My email is mike22faure@gmail.com or mob is 0426787022. Thank you so much for your time. Mike
Head off to the local fish coop and buy vinyl trawler foul weather gear. Bib and braces trousers and jacket and for warmth perhaps a sheep skin lined vest. Or secondhand snow gear under the trawler stuff from the Salvation army.
Apropos Ramona's comments, an article in a recent PBO (or maybe it was Yachting Monthly) examined the waterproofness of some very $$$$$ sailing clobber. His finding was that even the top Musto, Henri Lloyd's etc lost their proofing after a year or two, and he also recommended the yellow PVC's. I unfortunately verified this in Bass Strait, where my (admittedly not high-end) jacket recently performed about as well as mozzie wire in wet conditions.
Another issue of PBO tested after-market proofing products, and recommended the Gill spray as a clear winner. I tried it and had some left over, so I applied it to my ancient cycling jacket,. In an unscheduled test when the heavens opened on a ride It performed very well.
Cheers, Graeme
