Hi Ho Sailors
I am hoping to buy a yacht in the next few months. 30-40 year old blue water fibre glass mono hull for short handed cruising. Something like an S&S 34. I have been googling surveyors but have only found stinkboat inspectors. Does anyone know of experienced yacht pre purchase surveyors which will list everything I need to replace on a report, including osmosis issues. In the Perth/Mandurah/Busselton area. Do you know approximate cost? Thanks
One advantage of buying an SS34 is that their history is usually well known. Check out the association webpage.

Settling on one choice of vessel is going to make the choice easier. Forget about osmosis. Boats that are 40 years old if they had it it would have been resolved by now.
Thanks Ramona and rumblefish. I have always dreamt of a s&s34, but wanted to be careful that I am not buying with my ?? because of all those solo sailors I have been following and reading about for years
The majority of yachts will require a survey for insurance purposes. Therefore you might as well use a surveyor that can provide a report that the insurance companies will accept. The attached link can be used to highlight marine surveyors that Club Marine will accept

From memory the last time I had to carry out a survey (normally every 5 years) Club Marine also sent me a list of surveyors. You could also contact their Perth office for the list. From memory it was $500-600.

Just went through two other club marine recommended surveyors. Neither were much interested in yachts and not very thorough. Neither picked up on what I had already noted. They just seemed to go through the motions to tick the insurance box.
After I finally purchased and refitted the boat I was recomended Ian Calvert 0403 366 253 by the yard. He can be a bit pedantic but that's what you want for prepurchase. 40ft cat =600
Hi, we are also about to get a pre-purchase survey in Perth for a sailing cat. Wondering if anyone has had Ian Calvert do their survey? Another 2 people we have had recommended are Paul Masters and Rob Coulson. Does anyone have any experience or reconstructions??
thanks
