Hi All
Long time lurker, first time poster, I have learned a lot from all of the members and wondering in everyone's collective wisdom is it worth joining a yacht/boat club ? My plans are East coast cruising ( Tassie to Cairns) then in a year or two a lap of Oz, Where I live (Central Coast NSW) I cannot get my boat under the Rip Bridge to go to Gosford Sailing Club so not much point joining that if I can't make use of amenities.
So the real question is :Is there any advantage in joining a club just so I could possibly use other club's facilities as a visiting yachtie?
Thanks.
It depends on what you want to achieve as part of a club. Most clubs have racing and cruising divisions, which are a great way to meet fellow minded boaties. Some clubs offer reciprocal rights at other clubs, but in reality its not much at all.
Up and down the east coast, many of the marinas you will visit are not part of a club, they are just stand alone commercial enterprises. As long as you have your insurance papers and a credit card, they are happy to see you.
Personally, I generally prefer to stay at club run marinas, if only to kick a few dollars into their coffers.
Join Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania as a country member.
They have the best list of Reciprocal membership clubs even worldwide.
