Hi all!
I've read once before a few comments on this site about a bargain ebay fridge a few seabreezers have.... I've considered a $1300 Engel and cant justify the spend when I usually go away on the boat for no more than a few nights, a bag of ice and a couple of 2L frozen milk bottles do the trick!
What are your thoughts on this Evakool? Any experts out there? There's a sale on for $479 45 LITRE EVAKOOL GLACIER METAL FRIDGE/FREEZER INC FREE COVER!

Looks the goods, has the danfoss compressor. So long as it's a bonifide danfoss not a danstar or dragonfoss or some other knock off.
For what it's worth - My 150l Evacool is simply brilliant - design; efficiency and startup awesome. Runs at around 1amp hour - has a range of modes (economy/normal) & temp/energy adjusting. More so is super quiet (never hear it), has a robust fiberglass case & just works (5 years no probs). Yes, Australian made using Danfoss compressor & good insulation.
I also use a portable Engel 50l when cruising, which is noisier and uses pound for pound more juice.
Downside is they are more expensive than some alternatives in the 100+l category
That's unreal, thanks. Sounds like the $479 45L Evakool is a pretty good deal! It's only small but perfect for my top hat 25.. I've got 220AH bank and only 20watt solar, will be getting a 100+watt flexible solar as an additional charge...
Toyboata, when you get that fridge make sure you get more pv watts and you will be laughing. Otherwise I'm sure you understand the conscience. ( flattery blat, $479 ice box, $@&*%#!!! )
Im tempted to get one and run it as a dedicated freezer, and a bit more pv watts of course ![]()
I got this one for my Top Hat on ebay last year
30L - 35L Portable Freezer 12V Camping Car Boating Caravan Bar Fridge AU $325.11 sold by aus-auc.2010
Fitted it into one of the dinning table seats as I sail solo works out well for me.
But to run it I have 240 amp hours worth of house batteries and a 180 W solar panel.
Thanks guys! I'm going to test out a mates old engel. I'm definitely going to ad some extra solar but no additional battery's.. 220AH enough weight on-board for me!
That Ebay one looks like good value. I think you'd mentioned it on a previous post.
Cheers!!
