Thanks to an alert from a facebook sailing group, I discovered today that YOUI cancelled my boat insurance in April with an email which would have hit my junk box never to be seen by me.

So that's the end of me recommending YOUI as an insurer. Apparently they don't insure boats in my category anymore, but they couldn't tell me the reason why.

NOT HAPPY JAN

Mad scramble to get boat re insured now.
Best recommendations please.

I had GIO do the same thing to me at the end of December a couple of years ago. Luckily I had heard on the grape vine before hand and was able to get an out of water inspection before everyone shut for holidays. Now with Club Marine, no problems so far, which has included an at fault claim.
My boat is now over 40 years old, so they are asking for an out of water insurance survey before the next renewal, which I have done as part of the anti-foul maintenance.
Our sailing club racing is sponsored by Pantaenius. A couple of members have signed up with them and have had no problems. They have slightly different terms and conditions tho, some of which impacted me.

Wow - that's really sucky! I used to be with them too, back when I first got my boat.

If you get stuck McNaughtical, give the guys at Tudor Insurance a call - I heard about them from someone on here too. They're just brokers (located in country VIC if you can believe it), but were really helpful getting me sorted out and insured. Have been recommending them to everyone since. http://www.tudorinsurance.com.au/marine.html

naughty insurance company needs a spanking, more like Aoui and not Youi!

I am shopping around to for a new one, someone has mentioned QBE and Nautilus, but I might just stick with Club Marine (Allianz) despite the fact they had gotten worst lately in the customer service department.

Apia.... not the cheapest, but not to restrictive, did not require survey, which depending on your haulout schedule can be expensive.

You can pay by the month, so if in the future you get a good deal but needs a survey you can cancel.

Youi are hopeless, I was with them for nearly a year, when they sent me a renewal for the following year I noticed one of the conditions was that I was covered for inland waters only. When I rang to inquire what this meant I was told my boat was only covered for rivers and lakes and had been for nearly the past year even though this condition was not written on my previous policy. How many 33' keel boats ply the inland waters of Qld? My mooring is not far from the upstream limit of navigable water for the Burnett as it is. For the sake of convenience I had the condition removed (for $100 extra) and life went on. At the end of last year's coverage I also received an email saying that they weren't offering a renewal, there was a bit of a blurb about "it's not you it's me, the magic's gone and we're sure you'll find someone else". So I moved on.

The best thing about Youi is that it is always fun to get them to quote for car insurance and then send them a scan of my current policy with RACQ or pretty well anyone else and then listen to the spiel about how they can't price match a policy that's 50% lower than theirs for the same cover. Last time they didn't even offer a quote for my car either.

If your annual is coming due is it worth getting a qoute from Elders.
Drew Sayer that surveyed my boat said that they paid out for a bloke he knew who got heavy cyclone damage on his boat at anchor in Cooktown of all places.
I think the underwriter is Australian Alliance Insurance but you will need a survey and Drew is just the man for that. He gave me a really thorough survey for $450.

We are about to purchase our next boat. All of our previous boats have been insured with Club Marine but as our next boat is likely to be a custom build we may have to change insurers.
Things are definitely changing in the boating insurance world so we need to be on our toes.

You guys just don't read the relevant information.
The answer is : QBE.

Claimed, got paid off no worries, was no need for out of water survey when l signed.
No broker, rang QBE and insured the boat on the phone 04.2017.
Sent them copy of rigging inspection online.
Period.

Ps: Almost forgot
YOUI SUX BIG-TIME!!!

I had YOUI for two years. Second year they tried to raise premium 50% but I nagged them down. Quote for third year was double the first so I sacked them. Now with Elders (QBE) who do all my farm business cover. Cheaper, and can explain all to our local personal agent. Only really need public liability anyway for the marina as I would easily self-insure the boat. My philosophy with a small boat is that the only worthwhile claim would be for a total loss - in which case it would probably be my executors making the claim !

The over the phone service was good with NRMA but I have never made a claim.

I had the same problem with YOUI about 6 months ago. Gave NRMA a cal and they were extremely helpful and cheaper.

I have everything with NRMA including my yacht. Just made a claim on the car after side swiping a Kangaroo, was all done on line, then I found extra damage and rang all sorted in 10 mins with approval to get repairs done. All good!!

I have everything with NRMA as well, so got a quote for my fisher as my insurance is due, worked out to be about 3 times the price of existing insurance.

Know of some pretty awful refusal to pay by Pantaenius recently.
In both cases, they were happy to accept riggers/surveyors reports and for the customers to pay their premiums, but when something broke and masts fell down, they went along way to make sure they didn't have to pay
