I did a brief report in December and replied to a private message.

Any how thanks for the reminder all has been to my expectations and I have a few photos of the boat out of the water at the end of November 13.

I did a dive under the boat a couple of days ago and all good with the exception of the trim tabs ie absolutely no growth just slight slime.

I will have sometime later this week and will post more detail and photos. For me the system has more than paid for its self and now it is savings at no extra cost.

Ultrasonic Antifouling system update - 2 years 4 months on

Manufacturers basic requirements for best results:
- Clean freshly antifouled hull (I failed to meet this as fitted 7 months since antifouling)
- Continuous full power supply
- Correct installation including all parts below the water line to be in direct contact with the hull (trim tabs are isolated from the hull)
- Regular boat usage ( I again failed to meet this as about 50 hours use in 2 yrs)

Time line

Boat Location and usage: Southern end of Lake Macquarie NSW, very little use ie about 50 hours over 2 years

November 2011 - Boat antifouled

End July 2012 - Ultrasonic antifouling system fully operational so about 7 months since anti fouled including a summer

End November 2013 - boat out of the water and antifouled (as in previous years) with Alex No. 5 on hull and speed prop on shafts, rudders and props. Previously I also did the trim tabs with speed prop however did not this time, I now realise I should have.

April 2014 - see status below

Photos ( photos will not load but will keep trying)
No weed growth or shell fish, looks worse in photos than real life, all came off easily with high water pressure clean with no additional work require prior to the wet and dry rub before applying the paint. Anyone know what the orange growth is?

Results comments

Prior to fitting the system the boat was antifouled annually and boat usage was mostly 100 hours per year.

Test period -When the boat was taken out of the water after 2 years and about 50 hours use and 17 months with the system fitted the result was close to the same for 12 months as above without the system.

Now at 4 months on (1 December 13 to April 14 ie a full summer) with the system fitted and fresh antifouling there is no growth on the hull however parts that are isolated from the hull eg trim tabs have some growth and a few shell fish - fortunately these are easy to reach and clean. I did a dive under the boat in clear water to check and all I noticed was slight slime and less than 5 to 6 small shell fish.

Further Comment
I think I would always take my boat out of the water every 2 years regardless. However, even with this frequency which is better than annually as prior to fitting the system the system is satisfactory for me.

Pink on bronze can mean de-zincification is happening afaik.... doesn't explain why it is all over the hull tho'.
What is the hull made of?

As bronze is an alloy of copper and tin, de-zincification can't happen, that only happens to brass. Tin is classed as a noble metal.

Fair call LC. Chemistry was my one of my fav' subjects at school, but im certainly no expert on it. Anyway looks like some type of leaching (for want of a better term) & maybe the owner should investigate the possibility of something like that, cheers.

To me it looks more like an algal growth, similar to a lichen you would see growing on a rock.

Thanks Loose change, I agree.

Also now 6 months through a summer since antifouling now growth on hull. So as the manufacturer states best to fit the ultrasonic system after antifouling
