Yara said in the 'Cruising to Retirement thread,
"Perth to Brisbane is a lot cheaper. Back loads for empty trucks. However, if it is over 3.5m wide, there are escorts involved, and that is expensive".

Where do I start, who do I contact regarding this?

Save yourself the freight costs and other out of pocket expenses , then put them towards a boat more local to you, it will possibly be a better outcome.

Sound advice. Plus less worrying and stress which I'm quite partial to .

This is local. Bit big but exceptionally well fitted out for a liveaboard/cruiser. Soon be an expert on varnishing and having long meaningful discussions on the merits of various varnish brushes. Love the deck prisms. Might have an Aries but it's not listed.

Ramona, you really can't go past the Deco brushes from Aldi. Despite their cheap price they do not shed their bristles, this
became evident when we used them to paint our boat with Perfection twin pack paint.

She is a lovely piece of work. Viewable at Coconut Slipway, Cairns Inlet. I have fond memories of that place.

Bogart, the owner back then would haul your boat out, set you up with a boarding ladder with a foot bath at the base and then set up a number of metal drums around the place containing smouldering driftwood and cow dung to try to reduce the sand flies and mozzies and then leave saying to let him know when you are ready to go back in.

It is a great slip but sandfly and mozzie hell!! It is so damn hot up there that a pair of stubbie shorts was all you could wear. When working on your boats bottom you had to switch your mind off to the hordes of midgies and mozzies attacking you, but every 20 or 30 mins you just had to stop and wipe a couple of thousand biteys off your arms, legs and torso.

It was hell on the ground but surprisingly they did not bother you when you got back up into your boat.

You had to make sure you had all your materials on board before you went there and a good fast dinghy to get you over to town as being on the south side of the inlet it was a 30 mile road trip to town.

If you are in Cairns and need a quick slip, antifoul and splash, it is highly recommended. Hell of a lot cheaper than townside.

I have tried them Sam and they are not bad but I think the DIY range of brushes made by Monarch and sold at Bunnies are much better quality and value. Finer bristles and many more of them per brush. You can feel the difference with your fingers.

Monarch's budget line and about a third the price of their regular brushes.

Hi,
I'm in the selling of trucks business and when I need a truck to be shipped interstate I use 'Load shift'
It's quite a good site. have a look at it. It's for trucks wanting work to return back to base.
Cheers.

Cisco...how would you cope trying to paint a boat on the slip with all the wildlife sticking to the paint ??.

TheSelkie, Obviiusly size will dictate the price, but a few years back I got a quote for 10k Perth to Brisbane. That was for a 32 footer, beam just on 3 meters from memory. I think it was considered a wide load but no escort was going to be required.

I didn't go through with it in the end. So that was just initially enquiry type of info.

They like blood better than paint so it is not an issue.
