I see for sale ads that often mention that the boat is insured till ##/## like this is a good thing. Why would it matter if insurance cannot be transferred anyway? Is it that people don't understand this or are there really some unusual policies that somehow allow for this? Or is it meant to show something else perhaps?
Do they mean registration? At least in some states, this can be transferred.

They mean the insurance as some go as far as mentioning who it is insured with.

All registration is transferable in every state. The only time it's not is if you buy out of state, in which case cancel one state and apply for registration in the new state.
Boats, cars, no matter the government wants its pound of flesh (plus stamp duty)
I didn't mean to imply that Rego was not transferable in all states - I just didn't know the rules for all states - I've only had experience of 3 of 'em.
Maybe the vendor wants to show that the vessel is insurable.

"Maybe the vendor wants to show that the vessel is insurable."
That's about the only reason I could come up with also.
