hi all.. ok I'm having our Catalina 30 Anti-failed next week the guy saying it's a good idea to wax the topside ... I know I can get the wax etc So, is this a good idea or not ??

Yes. Gelcoat is not all that waterproof and old gelcoat will benefit from a good clean and then seal with a suitable polish. Wash the topsides down with oxalic acid. Clean any other crap with a suitable cleaner meant for fibreglass and then polish. Best bet is to spy on the professionals that do this for a living and note what products they use.

You will need to be fit and ready for hard work. Even a smallish boat like mine it was a huge job to wash down the top sides, polish and then wax.
I started doing it a few years ago and when my arms started to fall off I had the marina staff finish it.

^^^ I can appreciate that. I spent 4 days polishing my boat and I still wasn't happy with the result. But I did use a fairly gentle polish..

Thanks I think I get them to carry out the waxing of the top side..
