It's a pity it doesn't have collision avoidance. Wonder how it would go in a stiff breeze? You could get some great shots if it followed the yacht along especially on those bar crossing where you catch a wave or 2.

Thanks for that, that's brilliant.

I was walking through a shopping centre the other day and in one of the shops a bloke was flying a mini drone, probably 50mm across. He was doing aerobatics and flying it upside down! Please explain!!!

Well, it's a drone but it's not a Lily. Delos use a drone and so does Drake Paragon.

Delos use a DJI Phantom 3 Vision 2+. A better option would be the Phantom with the Zenmuse Gimbal with a GoPro on it.

Easy to explain Ramona , Its just cleaver use of software controlling motors from data collected from accelerometers and rate gyros etc. The pilot does nothing to control the craft other than point it where he wants it to go. The computer and software allows pilots inputs to override the stability control of the craft within governed parameters. For example, You have forward flight/motion with stick forward, you bring the stick to neutral and the craft hovers and stops right there. The computer gathered data from accelerometers and gyros and then worked its butt off with inputs to motors to stop the craft in relation to the pilots inputs. Throw in optical sensitivity/motion detectors and it all becomes nearly impossible to crash
Hook up the same software up to your boat and dock it in a pen. You move forward into the pen then pull the engine control to neutral, the computer then senses the forward motion from accelerometers, optical sensors, gyro's, GPS, and then engages reverse to your gear box and increases rpm in the motor to stop the boat,,, all without your input other than your selected neutral.
This new generation of software/technology makes everybody an excellent drone pilot and expert drone stunt pilot but it doesn't make them R/C aircraft pilot.
I do agree, the whole Lily thing is brilliant

Yes it is brilliant and it is about time the manufacturers of marine hardware and software got some of this stuff into their heads.

A guy I worked with, father has a 50ft rRveria that had gear installed on it that allowed the boat to dock itself. He said it cost about $15,000. That's probably cheaper than running a 50ft Riveria in to the dock once. Well worth it. He also said the equipment would actually bring the boat into the dock a lot faster than he was ever game to bring it in. Just flick the switch and hang on. Scary stuff.
