Well that was our plans for NYE on the harbour ruined. Got to the shore to discover someone had it away with our tender. Cut through the chain with bolt cutters.
What with that and the ridiculous money Hunters Hill council wanted for storing it when there are still unstickered dinghies not moved have decided to look at an inflatable that we can take with us. More painful to get to and from but should at least be able to take it on board with us for longer trips.
That's bad luck Nic. Next door neighbour in the Creek had the same problem (stolen from the dinghy rack) in
McCarrs Creek Reserve, so with his replacement dinghy he bought 2 metres of hardened SS chain. You have to
buy this stuff in set lengths because it can't be cut with bolt cutters. Needless to say he still has his dinghy.
Battery grinders and the publics lack of concern means hardened chain is not much better.
I know. Because when iI was looking for a spot for my tender, i cut away 2 tenders that were obviously abandoned and no one looked twice.
I have seen tenders with a few waterproof screw in hatches put into the sole of the tender:
you take the bungs out when you go home...of course they can still steal it and buy new bungs, but in reality you try and make your tender more trouble to steal than the others secured there.
Sorry to hear that, I used a whitworths special inflatable floor dinghy for ages. Got a 12 volt two stage pump that I lengthened the leads on . It only takes 5 minutes to inflate . It lives on my foredeck now still going strong with a couple of patches. When I lived on a swing mooring I used a hard dinghy as transport to go to work leaving it tied up at the marina , used heaps of fuel till I got home from work early and found the motor already hot. Apparently everyone knew my schedule so if you wanted to visit your boat why row lol. At least it kept coming back.
Sorry to hear Nick about your tender. It troubles me that there are low lifes in the boating community. Must be stink boaters!
Oldboyracer...You would have at least thought someone would put 5 bucks of fuel in every now and then!![]()

My sister lost two dinghies from there. Both with high grade hardened chain.

The crooks must be getting more sophisticated MB. My old sad looking worn out fibreglass dinghy doesn't
rate a second look, consequently I've still got it.
Well Hunters Hill council was as helpful as ever. Customer service said they didnt know if there had been a cleanup. It was stickered. Have left a message for the boating officer. Have bought an inflatable we can take home with us. More of a pain but less disappointment. We better ones than ours available and all on the same chains. Will have to try the removable bung idea if we replace it.

That is exactly what happens Sam.
My sister always has nice robust aluminium tenders, which admittedly she has needed when out cruising. They are quite expensive items.
My little fibreglass tender is always the least attractive one in the rack and nobody looks at it twice. And if they did pinch it it isn't the most stable one and without careful handling they will go for a swim.
