Hi All,

I've put a new mooring licence application in for Woodford bay and it will probably get approved in the next couple of days. Its for a Tophat 25 so shouldn't be too difficult to get allocated a spot.

I really wanted the boat in Little Sirius Cove but unfortunately there's no availability at present (nil on wait list). Taylors bay, right next door is a little exposed for my liking but has availability. RMS have been extremely helpful and we assume something should come up in the next month at little sirius if i was to wait.

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced commercial moorings in either Sydney Harbour or Botany Bay? I have a mooring organised for the next two-three weeks but nothing after that. Hoping to have the woodford bay one approved by then and get a licenced contractor to drop my block in place so I have somewhere to moor but ideally i would find a cheap temp mooring and then change my application to Little Sirius and wait.

Let me know your thoughts guys?!
Cheers!

Give President Boatshed at Drummoyne a call. They have commercial moorings at standard rates. On the same street (around the corner from Birkenhead Point) there is a small unofficial marina that also (or at least did) rent out commercial moorings. It is at 28 St George Crescent, Drummoyne.

Alternatively, just cruise around looking for an empty orange mooring, that looks like it hasn't been used in a while. It shouldn't be too hard too find the right person to pay.

Thanks mate appreciate it!
My mooring got approved through RMS today so should hear from the BSO in the next couple days I guess.
Just as long as I dont get kicked off my current mooring for another week or two i should be fine.

Hi all

I'm bringing my '64 Chris Craft Cavalier across from SA in the next month or so and am looking for a mooring as close to Birchgrove as possible that has good dinghy access. I've looked at the various waiting lists and there seem to be a few options around Drummoyne, Leihhardt Bay and Greenwich Baths (via ferry) but with our creaky knees good access is important.

Any suggestions very welcome!

Birchgrove itself has a huge waiting list that's literally years long at this point. If needing to be near Birchgrove is the main thing, you don't want Greenwich. No idea when that ferry runs, but it's not often. Another thing to consider with the dinghy is the council that owns the land on which you'll store it.

* The council that covers Drummoyne itself, Canada Bay (basically covers the whole headland Drummoyne is on), charges nothing to store your dinghy...but also provides nothing.
* Around Leichhardt, the council doesn't charge where there's no storage available, but where there is, it's $86 for residents, $128 for non residents. The Leichhardt Bay area is right near one of these, complete with a little dock to get on and off, so it might be worth the price. On the other hand, if you have a look around other areas which don't have proper racks, you can store it for nothing.
* Finally, on the other side of Drummoyne you have Hunters Hill council. I was moored in Betts Bay, which is a beautiful protected little place, but moved when they introduced their dinghy storage fees, which they charge even in parks with zero infrastructure. They charge $170 for residents, or a whopping $480 for non residents. It was literally cheaper for me to apply for a new mooring, and have my mooring and boat moved & professionally serviced than it was to store my dinghy there for one year.

Given you're not sailing, I actually think probably one of the better spots would be Five Dock Bay North or South. There are small areas to get down onto dinghies around the bay, and in between, there's the boatramp with a big floating pontoon - if you've got an outboard on your dinghy, that'd definitely be the place to easily get on and off.

Thanks Planeray, useful tips.

I went out today and had a look around and yes Five Dock bay looks pretty good with some vacancies i hope. Half-moon bay also has some options, but access looks difficult. Greenwich was not a long drive (another 10 min past Drummoyne) and good dinghy access, but Im not sure if there will be any suitable vacancies, and there is a lot of wash from all the traffic. The comments on Woodford bay look interesting, and I may get out there tomorrow.

where did you go after Betts Bay?

We are all new to this, first boat and first mooring!

Great to get more people out! Same for me - first boat, so learning everything the hard way first, hopefully some day when I have a clue I'll get something else, but having fun messing this boat up first.

Just around the corner to Drummoyne Bay. It's ok - bit closer to the main Harbour, pretty easy parking, ferry wharf nearby, so you get a bit of wash, but the landing is the reason I didn't recommend it for you.

It's very slippery. The bits that aren't slippery are covered in oysters. The bits that aren't slippery or covered in oysters are shaped like lunar craters to twist your ankle in.

The dream is to get a mooring out front of the club again (I minded someone else's for a while), but with the waiting list the way it is, I suspect it'll be my toddler who gets that :P

MB is on a swing mooring directly off Drummoyne Sailing Club. I like the location except when it is blowing hard from the NE. I pick my days to avoid going out in strong winds.

I had a mooring in Woodford bay, lovely sheltered bay.
I have since moved to Middle harbour, happy here, but Woodford is a great Bay.
