Is there a Sydney Harbour Cruising Guide available similar to 100 Magic Miles for the Whitsundays? I know about Alan Lucas' Cruising the NSW Coast, but was wondering if there is anything specific to Sydney Harbour?

I had a look on the Boat Books website but cannot find anything relevant. Searching online for 'Sydney Harbour Cruising Guide' returns mostly tourist type stuff on ferries.

This might be worth your time reading: www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f23/anchoring-in-sydney-93910.html

That's a good start. Thank you.

Might just have to buy Alan Lucas' NSW guide and a paper chart.

There is also Zulu Waterways, or Anchor Adviser.

I have played with Zulu Waterways, but not Anchor Adviser. Thanks for the tip.

We often use Sixmaps as a planning tool. The measurement function on top toolbar is handy for reasonably accurate distances & lengths.. like a 12 metre boat measures as 12 metres. Like googlemaps only closer to straight above view. Always need a real look especially at low tide plus chart for air draft etc.

Reading the Maritime section of the NSW RMS website, I found links to a large number of charts (not proper Hydrographic charts) but more general use charts that show the relevant details I was chasing.

www.rms.nsw.gov.au/maritime/using-waterways/maps/boating-maps.html

These will be a good start.

PDF versions can be downloaded from the website, or they can be purchased printed on waterproof paper for $7 per chart.

These are actually very accurate charts. Convert the pdf file to jpeg and size to your liking. They have lat and long so can be calibrated and used on plotters like Seaclear. Perfect for charts of your homeport where the admiralty charts are very inaccurate.
