Hi all,
As per title can any one recommend where to buy heavy duty stuffing box hose/log shaft gland (whatever you want to call it: I use either term). Have looked everywhere to the best of my ability online etc however I'm confident that the more experienced sailors on here will know somewhere to get it as I'm stumped. Close to getting (finally) my engine going & this is the part of the project that's holding me up! Really need some help on this... ![]()
I want to buy proper, heavy duty hose specific to the application so please don't suggest wet exhaust hose. I currently have the Buck Algonquin stuffing box hose fitted however due to the reduction in hose length I had to make in order for the stuffing box to fit, I've run into some issues and will be going back to the old stuffing box hence a new hose is required.
I can purchase at a somewhat reasonable price from the UK but surely somewhere in Sydney stocks it (if not, anywhere is Aus is fine as long as it can be shipped to me)
Thanks in advance,
Mark.
Endeavour 26: Marionette.
I got 3" of this last year - totally satisfied with it. UK supplier but very good to deal with and the freight costs from UK are reasonable not ridiculous like from US.

The hose is on the 33rd pdf page of this;

Hi r13,
Many thanks for your reply. Much appreciated!
Yes they're the UK supplier I was referring too and you're absolutely right: price of product + shipping is very reasonable.
I'm not going to mention what I paid for postage from Florida to Sydney! I'm doing my best to forget about it but suffice to say it was outlandish. ![]()
Can I ask for your thoughts on the quality of the hose? Recommended?
I certainly recommend it. Originally as soon as I received it I emailed the supplier that it wasn't stuffing box hose rather 2 ply wet exhaust hose. Big mistake, made a right twat of self. See below their answer. Of course I apologized............
Thank you for your email. I'm afraid you are incorrect. You received stuffing box hose. This hose is manufactured for one purpose which to connect stern glands to stern tubes. We have used the same hose, from the same manufacturer for decades and supplied hundreds of metres over the years. We also use this hose on the stern gear that we manufacture.

Thank r13, I had a good old chuckle at your reply ![]()

. They were certainly polite about putting you in your place. Good to see them standing behind their product like that.
I think I will go ahead and buy from them as this thread has been rather empty!
Many thanks again for your help with this mate.
Cheers,
Mark.
The back pages of the "Afloat" magazine usually have all the suppliers.
Thanks Ramona, will take a look at the latest issue. I always forget about Afloat!
Most shipwrights/diesel mechanics will have it. Try Woolwich or Gladesville Bridge marinas. If you're north, try any of the marinas around Pittwater.
