Found this slippery stowaway aboard my yacht Warlock this morning. The yacht is on a swing mooring yacht at Shaolhaven Inlet, NSW. The offender, though a friendly2.5 metre Diamond Python, was removed by a WIRES Snake Wrangler and rehomed in nearby bushland.
I would have kept it on deck.
Would love to see that sea gull which lands on that deck.
Rubber snakes are much better protection than those owls sold by W.![]()
Most pythons are lovely snakes to look at and many are safe to handle.
Just goes to show that pythons are good swimmers like most other snakes.
I never thought about snakes being a hazard on a boat but not so sure now.
Could have been a lot worse than just in the boat ..... Oh No! Not in the corn flakes box

I had a Tiger snake chase me down (and yes I mean turn around and come for me ) in a tender once. I would've preferred that Python.
Where is Shoalhaven Inlet? I have had a red bellied black chase me about while I was rowing my tender in the Shoalhaven here.
Hi Ramona,
Shoalhaven Inlet is the body of water between Shoalhaven Heads and Comerong Island. It used to be the entrance to the Shaolhaven River but closed off to the sea now due to the river diverting along Berry's Canal. If the Shaolhaven River floods the Council digs a channel through the sand blocking the entrance to assist water exiting the Shaolhaven.
My guess is the snake has come from Comerong Island. I have been told by the locals that snakes swimming about are quite common here. First time they have heard of a Snake making its home on board a boat. One benefit is he probably kept the birds off the boat.
Here is the snake skin that alerted me to his presence.
Yep. I am on the Southern side of Comerong island or as we like to call it, Greenwell Point. Just never heard Shoalhaven Heads called Shoalhaven inlet before.
