I am looking to buy a small yacht / trailer sailer in sub 8m length (20-25ft) with a 5hp outboard and I was just wondering roughly how much insurance would cost per year for that size boat. It would be moored or on hardstand at club, so NOT on driveway at home.
Anybody already owning a similar boat willing to share roughly what they pay?
Thanks
Mine is stored at home but with PIB Professional Insurance Brokers pay around $300 for a Castle 650. Includes racing.
Just paid mine $360 Suncorp.which includes registered trailer.
Be aware some coys. insist on seaworthy cert. up front.
Suncorp will only insure if stored mostly on trailer but do not require seaworthy cert.
$400 comp with Club Marine for 28 ft yacht with 20hp inboard.
Imho yacht insurance is a bargain -- compared to all the other costs!
Cheers

Similar? A lot depends on the hull material type. It can be more difficult, for example, to get insurance for a timber hulled vessel. The age of the vessel is also a factor. Some companies won't insure a vessel on a swing mooring. Some companies won't insure in certain locations.
Telephone a couple of insurance companies and get their view on these issues. That may help you decide on the type of yacht to buy.
BTW, a 5hp outboard for 20-25ft yacht sounds far too small to me.
Mine is 400ish, 25ft W trailer comprehensive as well but overvalued maybe. I was in secure mast up storage and now have the boat at home. Nil change as it's the same postcode.
