Hi all
Tonight I replaced the old 14 mm double braid genoa sheets with some new 12 mm ones (Donaghys Yachtmaster XS) and with the old sheets 3 turns around the winch was sufficient for them to grip the drum but tonight with 3 turns on, the shiny surface of the new sheet was slipping and i needed to put another turn on to winch the genoa in
Any thoughts on how to make the new sheets grip better
Regards Don
I like giving them a soak in salt water, it helps wash off any residue from the construction. I've heard people lightly run sandpaper down the length to fluff it up a bit. Neither of these will help with longevity but should help with grip.
I've had the same thing with new sheets not even holding in the jammers. Give them a good wash in fresh or salt water. They will come good after a couple of uses. I think they use some form of soluble lubricant in the manufacturing.
one of the reasons I hate putting new sheets and halyards on pagan they also burn your hands quicker when there new

Soak them in some sard or vantage stain remover

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the advice and I will give them ago (apart from the sandpaper
) and let you know how they go

The best thing l ever did after buying the tub was changing the 14mm db sheets for 8mm spectras. (14mm sheets on a 28 footer!?
For heavens sake!
No wonder, the head sails could not work properly, the wet, heavy, thick 14mm sheets weighed down the clew in light winds like a pig of led.)
The halyards became spectras too.
After that, always wearing gloves, never had a slip on the winches. Traveller was 6mm db.
The 8mm spectra was easy on the gloved hands but l kept the main sheet a 10mm db.![]()
