Hi there,

LLOYDS, as well as a lot of web sites out there, provide ship information and specifications (GRT, NRT, DWT, LOA, Beam, etc.).
Some of them charge, whereas others don't.

Question: where do THEY get that information from? IS it available from public sources? LLOYDS and vesseltracker both provide that info... but they must be getting it from somewhere.

Does anybody here know?

Thank you,

Merc.

I think you may be coming from the wrong end.
I believe Lloyds don't go looking for data on ships .
Ship Owners ,builders and architects supply data to Lloyd's and the vessels are subject to strict inspection by Lloyd's to get on to the ships register for lots of reasons esp. insurance of vessel and cargo.
I thought data supplied from other sites came from Lloyd's register for vessels over 100 tonne.
