I dunno about him. He shows you him deploying drogue only to stuff up his wind vane and he also shows you his para anchor that he hasn't used. Kinda pointless.
He is approaching Cape Horn and is on day 55, Peter.
Could be just a little tired.
So, I think we can cut him a little slack.
Looks pretty calm under the circumstances.
Also shows that deploying a series drouge is not to be taken lightly

I was saddened to learn after all the fastidious work he did on this beautiful yacht , that he was rolled and lost his mast.
And subsequently made the decision to scuttle the yacht and was rescued.
He wasn't in real bad weather and for a freak wave to come out of nowhere makes me wonder if he was near the infamous spot where Miles Smeaton was pitch poled .
After losing the self steering he had been hand steering for days he must of been exhausted .
i can't understand why the mast broke in half rigging chain plates all intact a very sad story .
It is a great Blog.
I met Shane as he was putting his mast back in the boat, which looked top shelf. It was a real shame that he lost the boat. I think when he looked at the costs to get the boat back to land and putting the mast back in, combined with all that risk, it was not worth while continuing.
Just add his boat to the number of GGR bats that lost masts.

That yacht he had was an incredible sea boat how he rolled and yet Bill Hatfield goes west about in two much less sea worthy yachts imho and survives,.
was it because he was moving to fast or just wrong place at the wrong time?
i can only imagine the financial loss,
i wouldn't be surprised if on reflection after recovering he has thought he could have limped into a port .
