The first video in this link under DIY is pretty impressive.

Just tape down a bunch of stickers to your deck and take photos then send them to Sea Deck and they can allegedly scale the whole thing to make a perfectly fitting kit for your boat.

Not sure about cost though.

Although it is in better condition than any other Clubman I have seen and was part of the beautiful attractions that sold me the boat I'm thinking of replacing the varnished teak floor and seat tops in my cockpit due to upcoming maintenance headaches and the fact that it necessitates wearing wet suit material non-slip shoes which make my feet sweat.

I've been seeing this come up on a few other social media platforms and was intrigued myself by the process.

I prefer my real teak, but if I have to ever remove or replace it, I think it would be with one of these synthetic products. I did price something similar once and and was cost prohibitive for the amount I wanted and that was largely due to shipping large flat panels. There looks to more competition now though.

I was just impressed at the technology. I'm going to have a go at cutting out the templates myself and have ordered the plain light grey version from the following site.
I don't think there's much point in having lines on it to look like teak as it obviously isn't.

It's a US product so hopefully will be quality. I will start with a small area before ripping all the teak off. If I can't make the first cutout look good I won't be doing it. I have however seen it on a Clubman that another guy did and it looks excellent. He chamfered the edges and I'm a little concerned about how well I can do that. I think he said he used a router! I would have thought that might rip a foam product even though it's pretty dense.

Interesting product. Pick a light colour otherwise you will be needing shoes to stop your feet burning. Perhaps you could let the teak go alla natural. Personal I have trouble letting wood grey, I like to see the beauty of the grain. What about the wood deck look alike poly vinyl it was popular no so long back. Anyone got an update on its durability ?

Yes, thanks, I've chosen the light grey and I have sailed on a Clubman with it installed and it was very nice on the feet and the behind as well as looking quite durable. I'm only going to start ripping the teak off once I have produced an immaculate shape although there will be 10 pieces in all once all the lockers and separate areas are counted.

I suppose I could try and sand off the varnish and try a preservative or oil for a while but the teak always seems to deteriorate in the end with hollowed out areas and as it's purely decorative it's not very thick. At least sanding it off would cure the slipperyness problem.

Then again I'm sure foam products don't last forever no matter how much UV filter there is and how dense it is. Nothing I'm afraid has the lifespan of good old gelcoat with a non-slip pattern or gloss.

I have a full teak deck, I use semco to keep it from going grey. Needs applying about 2 to 3 times a year in full sun to keep it looking fresh. Simple job to apply, no sanding or masking taping required, takes me a morning to do the full boat. I don't mind it, it's kind of peaceful and provides instant gratification. That's a 44 ft boat, I think with the amount you would need to do it would be lucky to take a half an hour twice a year.

I am not worried about grooves in the teak, that's the grip. I think Sea deck looks good but I would never take off a beautiful natural product like teak to replace it with plastic if didn't have to but that's me I like timber.

Ok so cancelled my order for Hydro Turf as I simply couldn't bring myself to rip up teak in excellent condition.

Adrian at Australian Jet Ski Parts was lightning quick with a refund which of course he didn't have to give and is much appreciated. Great to deal with if anyone ever needs any of their products.

Meanwhile I sanded the varnish off one teak strip and bought the Teak Wonder product available at Whitworths which they say has been around for quite a while and that they have sold quite a lot of. Not cheap of course but cheaper than some alternatives.

Applied some yesterday in two applications about an hour apart and the teak readily drank it up. No instructions on the can about dry time or what to use for wash-up so not much clue as to what it really is. I put the brush on top of the can and went to give it another coat this morning and the brush hasn't turned stiff in the slightest. The stuff seems extremely thin with the consistency of water. I haven't tried mixing a bit with water yet and hopefully it won't just wash out. I have some furniture teak oil in the house which if anything seems to be of thicker consistency. I was hoping that this stuff might go on thin and then perhaps thicken up a bit as it dries but that doesn't seem to be the case. It is of course winter and it has been less than a day but I'm not particularly impressed. The instructions talk about reapplications in six to eight weeks so keeping this stuff up is pretty much a full-time job.
