just trying to get some information on conditions to expect when sailing Cairns to Townsville early July. Places to stop along the way, we are day sailing only.
Cheers,
Suggested stop over points:-
The Frankland Island Group.
The Hole in the Wall (Mourilyan Harbour)
Bowden Island, gorgeous little place
Zoe Bay at Hinchinbrook Island and go up to the waterfalls
Orpheus Island and have a snorkel
Great Palm Island, Western Bay, good shelter before crossing the paddock to Magnetic Is. Don't go ashore there. Headhunters!!
Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island. Home to one of Australia's biggest group of eccentrics and dropouts.
Have a great cruise.

Love your description so true!
Bassjohnandnicc, try out the Zulu waterway app, has some good info on anchorages as well
Cheers for the comments, we are new to sailing and hope the tip will be trouble free. not sure about the headhunters though.![]()
All those places already mentioned plus Dunk Island. Also Hinchenbrook Island, so many great places around there. Try creek no.7 at the very northern end, you can motor up the mangrove river(nice and deep) anchor at the end and then walk over to the main beach.
If the weather allows there are also great spots along the reef so visit. Beaver Reef is one of the most beautiful and easy to get too.
Chances are that you'll be motoring into trade winds the whole way so take enough diesel.
Thank you for the information.
You are welcome. We are a friendly and knowledgeable bunch of numb nuts around here. ![]()
