My Nanni engine on my Swanson 28 has 600 hours.
It starts and runs well.
When buying it I comment on the low hours. The dry reply was 'Its a sailing boat'.
How often should I start and run it?
I would run the motor up to full operating temperature and 3/4 throttle at least every four or so weeks. Good idea to replace the water pump impeller at scheduled intervals. Easy to forget about those sorts of things when you don't use the motor much and then all of sudden it has deteriorated and fails.
BB my Yanmar is 7 years old with 208 hrs on it , its freshwater cooled and l do a service every 6 to 12 months
l always run it under load and never let it idle on the mooring
Touchwood it's never missed a beat
cheers Bear

The hours don't mean much. Just start it each time you go sailing and put it under load as soon as practical. Run it for a minimum of 20 minutes or so to get it up to temperature.
