Improving deck finish on my old '71 Top Hat Mark1 version.

Currently cream gelcoat with many layers grip paint on cabin top and that square fiberglassed gelcoated (no paint) into deck grip on a sides adj lifelines+bow.

Got Kiwigrip now refinishing the painted surfaces (after sandback, reglass soft cabin top, 2 coats norglass 2pac primer then kiwigrip grey over).

My question: what is best way to fix side glassed in grip?

1. Clean + Kiwigrip over (alot of void spaces)

2. Sand flat then Kiwigrip

3. Fill tread gaps with say thickened epoxy and then Kiwigrip

4. Leave existing, save repainting

No affiliation to Kiwigrip, just seems ok and have a bit handy now

I've sussed this out a bit before but before i go mess it up- what have you done?

Sounds interesting Dism, and maybe similar to what I've got to do the next time I pull mine out. Would you mind posting a picture of what you've got (and what you've already done)?

From the sounds of it though, I'd suggest giving option 1 a go on a small area, but more likely option 2 or 3 depending on the size of the gaps.

Though option 4 does leave you with more time and money for sailing and yeh, there's a limit with older boats as to how much work you really want to put into it.

Well, don't have anything more to suggest, other than I'm really interested in what you end up doing - that's pretty much exactly what my cabin sole looks like.

Just confirmed I'll be pulling mine out mid Nov, so it'll be good to see what I can do there.
