I would avoid the cheaper imported ones. I believe the bearings are not good quality and in some models the hubs aren't compatible with our standard Holden & ford setups. Trailer city @ rydalmere are good quality, well priced & good service. (I have no affiliation with them). Reasonable second hand ones come up on gumtree from time to time. Good luck.

Hi, if the cheaper ones are significantly cheaper then quality bearings are not expensive and easy to change and the addition of bearing buddies will make them last and last and last . As to the holden/ford comment, have you looked at the selection of cars on the road today, and if the wheels are galvanised, who cares.

Regarding the Holden or Ford comment, he wasn't referring to the wheels but rather to the bearings in the hub as traditionally trailers in Aus are either Holden or Ford regardless of what stud pattern is fitted eg. on my tinny trailer I have Velox wheels where the hub is cast integrally with the wheel and therefore no stud pattern at all but the bearing is a Holden type.

On boat trailers the wheel bearings will always be Holden for the light to medium trailers and Ford for heavy duty ones no matter what size or bolt pattern. Same goes for the galvanized hubs. The problem is with the Chinese bearings that come with new hubs and bearing replacement kits that come from places like supercheap! The tolerances on these are appalling! When replacing the wheel bearings spend the extra and buy Australian made ones. The Chinese made galvanised wheels on new boat trailers don't last long either.
It might be a better solution to buy a good used boat trailer and refresh the wheel bearings and fit new springs and hangers etc.

Hi Keensailor
Mate of mine just put a new trailer under his 6m glass boat, he goes out fishing most weekends, his trailer sits all day after being dunked in salt water. He did all the shopping around, research and pricing and very happy with what he settled on. Spitfire aluminium trailer.

My Galv dunbier was a great trailer to launch/retrieve and tow, but at 3 years old it was looking pretty shabby so id never get another.

Hi Ramona
So true with bearings and hubs / stud patterns.
Old mate at RTM did not believe me when I said I needed Holden bearing hub (from memory 40mm axle) with Ford 5 stud pattern.
Repco had them on the shelf
