Hi All,

I have a tophat 25 and I'm looking for a new location to mount my Chartplotter.. Thinking on a RAM Mount in the companionway (next to it in a location i can swivel it out....). Its only a smaller plotter (Northstar 550)..

Says they are $70 on RAM website but I think that's US... They are about $100 in AU.... Anyone got any bright alternatives?!

Cheers!

I think I'm the same situation as you - I'd like to have mine setup to peak around the corner from the side. imgur.com/a/jzyUcYr

Only other thing I've seen is the Railblaza system - www.whitworths.com.au/railblaza-fishfinder-mount-r-lock-r but you might need a little extension arm to make it work, and a starport to match. Adding all those together comes to about $75.

Happy to hear anyone elses ideas though - I had thought TV mount, but doubt you'd get one in stainless and probably overkill for the size of chartplotter (compared to modern tvs!).

Interesting... Yeah at this stage I'll be knocking something up... A bracket with a pin on top and maybe an aluminium plate that'l pivot.... Would rather something off the shelf for $20-30 i have enough boat jobs on the go!!

Hi Toyboata,
I also sail a TopHat, and my GPS is mounted on a twin-arm swing-out mount. I think you will need the extra length of that to adequately swing into (& away from) the companionway. Sorry, don't know the brand; but the photo you present looks too short.

Go for a walk in the big Green Shed and wander down the fixtures and fitment aisle, you know the one, brackets and hinges and all sorts of paraphernalia . In the aisle where brackets are there are some lovely large and small laminated wooden right angle brackets, if you think about them as a starting point and work from there something is bound to inspire you.

Funny you say that loosechange! I did that Saturday and my end result of bits and pieces was so dodgy I put all the bits back!

Not a very big plotter and I guess it would not weigh much. What about cobbling together some GOPRO camera mounts or mobile phone brackets that we all seem to accumulate. I have a slide in bracket in the cockpit for a Garmin hand held, that would work too.

Go for the RAM mount, very high quality, you'll not regret it, try MrMobile or GPSsomething on eBay, or on their websites might be cheaper. You'll appreciate the quality of this gear long after the price is forgotten.

I've dealt with Johnny Appleseed for many years and found them be very helpful and generally have what I want in stock.
