I'm still not convinced that this saga is going to end well. I've never seen them wear a safety harness, ever!
My new favourite cruisers! She's gorgeous and cute and he's cool and their videos are more about the sailing than the partying.
In one episode noone knows what the jib sheets are called. Reminds me of when I went to look at a boat a guy had sailed from Mexico to Sydney and he didn't know what anything was called and told me he'd climbed the mast steps "every second day... to untangle ropes and stuff". I feel both appalled and envious about people like that.
And yes, a harness wouldn't go astray for sure.
Both the Delos videos and now the La Vagabonde ones are worth watching again .... I have downloaded them and even re-edited some of them
As far as cruising videos go, these are the ones I subscribe to that post fairly regularly:
- Drake Paragon's Real Cruising Life (slow paced, technical sailing things, love that he is so anxious about things like anchoring)
- WhiteSpot Pirates (must-watch from beginning to see how this amazing woman deals with a classic boat purchase mistake)
- Sailing La Vagabond (gorgeous, fun, beginners)
- SV Delos Crew (twenty-somethings on a boat)
- More Hands on Deck (from 4 to 2 to one dude trying to make it work with no money and no idea)
- Wikid Salty (a couple of brothers or is it one of them and his girl? anyway, fun watching them learn)
Anyone have any other cruising youtubers worth watching???
This one is a classic.
From the title I thought this was going to be Seabreezer's videos, not You Tubers. That is cool.
One I like is "Suzy, the First Mate". She is a bit of "Horn Fodder" this one. Well worn but worn well.
Definitely my kind of woman. Equally at home under a welding hood as in a bikini. ![]()

Could someone please guide me to the easiest way to post a video here? My videos are on my laptop around 205mb size and can't get them on to my iPad ......do I need to sign up to utube ? Grrrrrrrrr

All the vids I have seen on Seabreeze have been Youtube or Vimeo links.
Signing up to You Tube has some great benefits. Once signed up you can save your favourite vids of music and other in "watch later" or "favourites". You can then create playlists and play them through your stereo system with your laptop or smart phone plugged or wifi/bluetoothed to it directly off the internet.
May be a bit nerdy to start with but once you get used to it, great fun. ![]()
Good vids southace but certainly not the weather people go to the Whitsundays for. ![]()
I would go there for it because you are actually getting some sailing out of it and not being sun scorched.
Haha - love the pink floyd track on that - spooky!
Yeah and now I know what my crew get up to when there on watch!
Not my boat but a sistership.
This is a full chain yacht mooring sorted today, not mine. The 39 foot ferro yacht was held by a shackle pin that had simply decided not to fall out. New swivel and rope riser fitted.
^^^ That is good. I used to do similar with a 42 foot IOR 2 tonner at the Cairns Marlin Marina.
My objective was to get the yacht into a pen 4 berths in from the end of the marina finger on it's upstream side, bow in, port side to, single handed.
Spectacular achievement is ALWAYS preceded by unspectacular preparation and that is a fact of life. It involved assessing the incoming tide, angle of approach, traffic, having lines on cleats aboard laid out to be handy and fenders out.
To get in required a sharp turn to port putting the vessel side on to the tide for about 20 metres followed by a sharp turn to starboard to head the tide for another 10 to 15 metres.
This was accomplished by approaching from upstream slowly in gear to put just enough way on with the gear in neutral before entering to carry her through the manoeuvre of getting alongside with barely a bump at which time I stepped onto the dock with the stern line, took a turn, two cross turns and a hitch on the dock cleat then walked forward and did the same with the bow line and then use the tails of each as springers back to the boat.
I was pretty chuffed at the time how I could single hand the yacht under engine from the pile berths on the south side of the inlet over to the marina and back in all tides (which sometimes flowed at 3 knots or more).
I met others in Cairns who more artful than I at such manoeuvres which comes from practice and repetition. Competent berthing and unberthing of boats is one of the most satisfying things a sailor can do. That is why the cross river ferry drivers in the Brisbane River just won't quit despite the lousy pay they get. They just LOVE the job.
That was thirty years ago and I guess I could do the same again today. Once you have the knowledge it is just a matter of repeating the process but one should not overestimate his capabilities. Best not to do these things on your own in case you fall into the briney.![]()
