Dear family and friends,

after more than 15 months of experimenting with antifouling paints I have finally got the winner. 1L of Juton Seaguardian antifouling paint
100g of Dactarine powder
200ml of Yales liquids copper ammonia complex Juton Seaguardian (800g of copper per L) and correct amount of Daktarin powder (anti fungal) is 100g. Yales liquids copper 200 ml Bunnings (20 bucks). More powder or Yales liquids will not work and will be less effective just for the record. This is the best combination. 5L of preparation will cover 25m2 (36foot boat) one cote. One cote will do for 18 months. Total cost 350 bucks!

Definitely outperformed every and each paint i have tested. I am shocked by results. This combination outperformed Sea Hawk CuKote, which performed well and way better than Altex 5, international micron 2 etc.

With this I am concluding my experiment. I will never ever do this dirty job myself again. It is not worth it. 10 L of Seaguardian some powder from pharmacy and some Liquids from Bunnings and straight direction towards Gladesville Bridge Marina, after 2k all included (paint and Work done) I am good for 18 months. Way cheaper and hassle free. Boys at Gladesville bridge Marina are happy to apply paint mixture I bring to them. Only stand at Woolwich dock will cost 1800 bucks. Just thinking of sanding 36 footer makes me sick.. I hope this preparation will work for everyone.
Good luck. I have done this study without any biases And should work for everyone.

So is it 10L Seaguardian with 100g Daktarin powder + 200ml Yates liquid copper mixed in?

Interesting, this study www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0043135420309180
seems to indicate extra copper may not be necessary however it is dependant on salinity.

"the slowest leaching paints thus had release rates corresponding to 16 - 23% of those of the highest leaching paints. This result suggests there is potential for a ~ 80% reduction in Cu release rates from the highest leaching antifouling products for recreational vessels in the Baltic Sea and Kattegat area without any efficiency loss."

Another thing to consider is that every single bay is different somehow. I did my test in the most difficult environment woolwich wharf (sewage leaking) and less growing environment Alexandra st bay Hunters hill. Samples except juton are so different. Juton is the one that outperformed them all. The most disappointing is actually seahawk which performed well in Alexandra st ( closed bay ) but was horrible in Woolwich wharf due to constant ferries and sewage leakage.

Yes, got the phone call from the boat owner who took my advice 12 months a go. It was a gamble. He can not believe his eyes. The boat is like it was 12 months a go but the fact is he is moving the boat for an hour every week. No diver needed. It should be good for 2 years. Glad we finally find the formula and the cheap one in actual fact.

I heard from a charter boat owner last week who has a few vessels.
Two are the same type, Seawind cats, both painted within a couple of weeks with same product which I don't know but will find out.
One vessel on a swing mooring in vicinity of Drummoyne sailing club badly fouled.
Other vessel in Birkenhead marina in still calm water very clean.

I don't know the areas you guys are talking about, but here on the Swan R, the two worse places for growth (and they are sufficiently distant apart) are on the inside of the biggest bends in the river. Coincidental or not I don't know.

Nice observation, generally speaking the silt and I guess nutrients build up on the inside of river bends, may contribute some

This is something that I just couldn't understand. I went mad. I took me 2 years to understand that bays differ significantly. However, Juton Seaguardian, outperformed all paint and in actual fact it is the cheapest one. Insane!

I'm not clear on the ratio for this mix.
Is it:
100g of Dactarine powder
200ml of Yales liquids copper ammonia
added to a 5 litre tin of Jotun or per litre of Jotun?

You are not on your own, first it was
1L of Juton Seaguardian antifouling paint
100g of Dactarine powder
200ml of Yales liquids copper ammonia complex Juton Seaguardian (800g of copper per L) and correct amount of Daktarin powder (anti fungal) is 100g.
Then Bedford81 asked
So is it 10L Seaguardian with 100g Daktarin powder + 200ml Yates liquid copper mixed in?
The answer to which was
Yes, got the phone call from the boat owner who took my advice 12 months a go. It was a gamble. He can not believe his eyes. Likewise I get two years from jotun, 15l on each of my 10t boats works for me, one application around and around till it's all on. Props need attention in the second summer but I'm good with that

Can you clarify the amounts of each component please?
Your article states "1L seaguardian, 100 ml daktarin powder and 200 ml Yates copper amonia liquid.
Is the 1L seaguardian in this equasion correct??

Companies spend years and years and huge amounts of money on research and development for their products, as well as following strict environmental guidelines. Even then, not all anti-foul products are suitable for all environments. In the end you get what you pay for.

those two locations are perhaps 200 mtrs from each other, more antifoul copper shedding from adjacent boats in the marina i guess.

Did anyone work out what Serb's formula was? It's not clear in his post.

Basically it was to put 10x times the polluting biocide in a mix, if you read the study I linked it showed this did not increase effectiveness.
