Till now, cylinder sails, known a Flettner rotors, have been large rotating cylinders that produce aerodynamic thrust at right angles to the air passing over them (the "Magnus effect"). The one proposed here, on the other hand, produces lift from a pressure imbalance created by impellers. The cylinders themselves don't rotate.
