This is interesting, as I'm reading a book on weather and trying to relate it to real world.
In the image above it looks like the the wind is circulating clockwise but in the image below the isobars show a high which is supposed to circulate anticlockwise?
I'm missing something here
Don't take it too literally keensailor, a High or Low is a relative term and simply means an area of pressure higher or lower than the surrounding area. So strictly speaking, there may be an area of pressure surrounded by lower pressure, but that does not mean the general characteristics of a high pressure system will be found in that area. Take a look at this, a few hours after yours, but you can see the characteristics of two low pressure areas now a further east from your chart.
The BOM chart shows two lows
Earthwindmap is a really good way to look at the relationship between synoptic charts and winds. But, when you get up to the tropics, you are better looking at Gradiant Level Wind Analysis charts as air pressure gradients are more spread out and don't give the best indication of wind, unless really intense like for cyclones.
The BOM wind site says its going to blow a gale plus some !! for a long time . Hang on to your hat and your dog !!
it starts at about 10pm tonight then cranks until after 4 am wednesday

This is the highest the pontoons have been on the poles in 10 years. Max gust was 59 knots.

.......looks good but cant be trusted for accurate real time/place measurement. It says around 20 knots for southern Port Philip now however on the seabreeze real time graph Shouth Channel is blowing 35 Kn with gusts around 40 :(
There is a yacht from Melbourne called Luna approaching the prom about 15 miles due south of the Glennies at 11.30. Bet they'll be relieved when they drop anchor at Refuge!
@freeradical
There's some great info there, cheers.
It looks quite intense north west from the centre of that low.
