I see the NSW Labor party policy is to introduce stamp duty on the sale of boats both power and sail, new or second hand.
About $7500 for $200k.

Hadn't heard that one but then the ALP has always been known as the taxation party.
I find myself in the position of not being able to bring myself to vote for either of the major parties, one builds major infrastructure with public money, then sells it and we pay tolls for what we have already paid for 
, the other proposes tax hikes on apparently everything they can think of. For the first time in my life I can see myself penning a concise and pertinent note on the ballot paper. 
Something on the lines of a pox on both your houses.
Labor:- If you have nothing, they give you everything. If you have something, they take it away from you but in the end everybody loses.
The other lot don't seem much better.

Or to be more precise; the haves want to keep what they have so they vote liberal. The have nots want what the haves have so they vote for labour who promise to take it away from the haves. When there are more have nots than haves then labour is in. Once labour gives the have nots what they want, they become haves. The haves then outnumber the have nots and the cycle repeats.
not going to argue about the causes here, but what is clear is that income and wealth inequality are becoming increasingly more extreme around the globe. it is pretty clear that our overall global economic system favours the "haves".

We've just seen in China the greatest aleviaition of, and elevation out of poverty in the history of mankind.
The same is happening in India and Vietnam.
In the West, the average 'poor' person lives like a king would have 200 years ago.
So yeah, there is lots of inequality, but humans aren't equal, so inequality is not only to be expected, it is to be desired.
If all the wealth in the world was evenly redistributed so that everybody had the same, within five years the wealth would be back in the same hands.
