Hellllooooo!
We're a little bit new to the sailing world and are struggling to find a mooring or berth on this part of the coast. We're wanting to stay here for a couple of months while we have some work on at Albion Park. Any advise on on moorings or berths in this area would be awesome!
Or if there is somewhere we can temporarily anchor until we find one?
Thank-you!!

Maybe Greenwell point or Shoalhaven heads(not sure bout wire there). Shellharbour has something under construction & not sure on that progress- still dry I think. Theres a few little corners like Shellharbour, Wollongong & Port Kembla but long wait lists I think. Lake Illawarra is very shallow entrance and very low air draft to Windang bridge. Port hacking has some commercial mooring and marinas- Yowie Bay, Dolans bay & Burraneer- probably 50 minutes drive or so to Albion Park- I live in Menai and have a shed in Unanderra Wollongong and its consistently 46 minutes as against the run of traffic- fog can slow this.
All the best from Jeff.
I have a swing mooring at Shoalhaven Heads. Prior to the mooring being laid I was anchored there for a month. Very good holding with silt mud bottom and 4 metre depth. Plenty of room to anchor and well protected. 30 min drive to Albion Park so easy to regularly check on boat. Just make sure your anchor, chain and rode are in good condition. Also consider insurance implications.
Just remember in NSW you can only anchor in "one place" for 28 days and anchor anywhere in NSW for a total of 90 days per year.
If you have a private mooring [licenced by RMS] there are limits to the days you can stay onboard.
Worse, fines are usually 1 unit PER day, a unit being worth $550. Gets expensive.
How to fix...stay in a marina.
Sorry to bring you bad news. ![]()
Contact Wollongong Yacht club. Sometimes they have a spare mooring they will rent out casually. Alternatively Casual berths are available within Belmore Basin. These are managed on behalf of NSW Crown Lands by the Wollongong Fisherman's Cooperative. info on both in the link
