Hi, Wondering what the cost is for a mooring service in TAS.

I rang one mooring contractor who said he charges $350 for a service and $150 an hour for travel.

This sounds a tad steep to me I need the 16mm chain replaced and the same contractor charges it out at $50 a meter does this sound right ?

Ho Southace

She is currently sitting on a mooring outside my place

The new owner is doing some tidying up and finishing off work on her and I am keen to go for a sail on her when I get the chance

The owner and crew were really impressed with how she sailed and motored on the Bass Strait crossing and they had no real issues coming over other than a broken block on the main sheet system and the rod kicker that Haydn fitted was not adjusted correctly and forced the boom away from the mast at the goose neck fitting but they were able to fix it on the go

Also one of the battens in the main catches on the back stays when the main is fully hoisted but it should be not too hard to sort that out

I am also keen to see how she sails compared to my Sailmaster

Hi MMT

I am at Port Huon and I have had great service from Russel and Lynn at Southern Mooring Services 0457811070

They may not be the cheapest but they are a lovely couple and do a thorough job and I think they are good value for money and when it is blowing a gale I am confident that my mooring is secure

The cost with any contractor would depend on where their boat is at the time

I have two moorings that they service for me, one at Port Huon and the other one at Eggs and Bacon Bay and i normally get them to do the work when they are doing others in the same area so they don't have to make a special trip to do mine

If you haven't already spoken to them it might be worth a phone call and see what they say

Regards Don

I'm going to go through Mooring Maintenance they are based in Lindisfarne and have heard good things about them.

They are $300 a service and I like the fact they encouraged me to come out with them so I can see the mooring that I have purchased etc
