wet and windy in the Whitsundays today, so nestled behind Shaw Island with about 10 other yachts. I have just enough signal, if I sit upstairs under the Dodger!
So, google the title if you are contemplating antifouling removal, these high end sanders, with mesh abrasive are promoted in a English yacht article as the right gear? The more I check it out the more I consider it could be worth the investment?
With a shop vac attached, it would be environmentally a good solution too, the 8 mm orbit of this machine, coupled with the 80 grit mesh abrasive is said to be almost dustless sanding. My hull was
Professionally sanded with standard 80 grit pads, but they used a lot of them and it did not remove all the dead AF. I think the pad they used was shot, as it would not grip the pads too Well?
i was quoted 4 k to abrasive blast, and I have seen some other yards up here dry sanding, with success. This product would make it a relatively clean job. Anyone tried one or interested?
There is a local Sydney agent, I will try when back home.
Cheers Richard

sorry, I leave it to you to google, my service here is marginal

Hi Ramona, I get your point! But the DIY machine has an orbit of 2.8 mm and about half the power, this Mirka has an 8 mm orbit, and most importantly it set up to take their own mesh style abrasive pads, the pad uses a specialised central dust pick up.
Cheers Richard

Interesting the 8mm orbit would defiantly move more material. The sanding disc aren't cheap either. If they vac good it maybe the way to go, but some how I think when I haul out next year it will be the Ol manual wet sand for me

Metabo SXE450 does a similar job with a dual 1/4 & 1/8in orbit. Half the price, however, at roughly AU $350.00 Not designed for a shop vac but it only needs some taping.
