Cruisers Forum has a thread which says that methylated spirit is being banned from California and some other US states. One US cruiser in Aus has also had trouble in getting supply here.
Anybody heard of plans to ban metho in Australia? Maybe why Origo stopped making /selling their two burner stove?
Heard nothing and it's so common I would be really surprised. Unless there is a big problem of youths getting "high" on meths.
But anyway, I've always wondered - how would it work if you used "shellite" in a metho stove (or anything that usually burns metho) ?

I think "Shellite" is actually petrol. If so, dangerous, as much more volatile, especially in a simple device like an Origo stove.
Shellite (Naptha) used in flip top cigarette lighters and advertised as Shellite stove fuel on diggers label.
Supplies of Meths from Coles, BigW and Woolworths has been very intermittent this season, especially 4 lt bottles.
Bunnings always has plenty in stock ![]()
Apparently its direct delivered to each store and supplies have been a bit low because of this.
One cause apparently has been the rise of those fireplaces that use meths to show a flame.
Meths will be around for a long time yet ![]()
A friend of mine has one of those Eco Heaters that he runs of the Foreshots and Heads cut from another mates (legal) still. Cheap as its thrown out anyway and burns real clean.
I guess you boys better start making moonshine ![]()
