I met Lisa at the Sydney Boat Show. Impressive. I wish her fair winds, no icebergs and more sleep than she was expecting.

Go Lisa !
I wonder at what point Lisa will cross longitudes with Andy ?
Theoretically it is possible they might be quite close if that point is just under one of the Capes
It is interesting how electronic problems has plagued both sailor's.

Lisa's blog is saying that she has been dismasted overnight. Hope she is well and can still continue, even if under motor.

I think it has been amazing how she has pretty much produced a daily log throughout the hole trip. It is exhausting enough sailing !

I think she has done a remarkable job. I was very surprised that see was not carrying a battery angle grinder with cut off blades. If she had, the mast would have been clear in 10 minutes. I carry one at all time for just that reason.
Yep, I just bought a battery grinder and a tin of 12x blades this week. I was reviewing my rigging removal toolkit for the Cat3 audit for B2G, and realised my trusty hacksaw was never going to work if I had to get rid of a downed mast in any sort of seaway.
I should have done it a year ago.
the battery grinder is a good plan .... the only problem is making sure its charged ... so most of the brands now have a radio ipod thingamajig .,that runs on the same batts as the tools , and it charges the batts when plugged into a charging source . so if that was used on the boat as vibes, crew would be more likely to have a charged batt at the ready at all times .
i guess you would also need some kind of system for keeping the grinder dry enough to not short out when working in rain or with seawater washing over the deck...

A plastic bag would work a treat. A friend dropped his mast in the 2 handed Pitwater to COFFS race and only had a hacksaw and took over 2 hours to remove the mast plus a lot of damage to the boat from the mast flogging round. His mast did not snap at the deck, but bent which meant he had to cut the mast off with a hacksaw which was no easy task.
Prior to the race I had told him that I always carry a battery grinder. Guess what he bought the day he got home to Brisbane. Most new battery grinders are now brushless and it would take a lot of water to stop them.
Buy the way I always carry two fully charged batteries.
Lisa's latest blog on the fuel transfer is a good read.
She was.also talking about using your angle grinder. She must have read it.
Lisa is back to where she started,,,Albany, what an awesome feat!
